OMFGTV spoke with Mädchen Amick during the San Diego Comic-Con where she talked about Wendy’s higher stakes and what’s up next in the romance department.

“It’s scary and frustrating that Wendy’s on her last life,” Amick tells us, “but it is fun to see a different attitude that she has because the stakes are so much higher for her now. So everything that she does, it could mean that she’s putting her life on the line and putting herself in harms way. So every time she steps up for her family to protect her family, she’s literally sacrificing herself. The stakes are much higher. Now she’s having to take things more seriously.”

“We need to keep everyone on the hook for a while, because it’s good drama to know that Wendy is potentially in real mortal danger,” explains Showrunner Maggie Friedman. “The character of Wendy A) Does not appear in the books and B) I literally created that character just to kill her because I wanted someone to die in the pilot so that the audience would know there’s real stakes on the show; people could die. And then Mädchen waltzes in and was so amazing that everyone agreed that we can’t kill her; she is too awesome. So then we made her a series regular.”

Friedman goes on to say that while she was worried about how Witches of East End Creator/Author Melissa de la Cruz would react to the addition of Wendy, she got the stamp of approval which was the biggest compliment.

“I changed a lot of things when I wrote the script and I was really worried to meet her. And she came down to North Carolina where we were shooting and the fist thing she said was ‘A) I love it and B) Wendy’s my favorite character,’ which is not even a character in the books! Wendy is obviously a fan favorite because she’s hilarious!”

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

 • Mädchen tells us that as a huge mythology geek, she would really love to see Asgard in all its glory, including what they were like there and what kind of powers they had. “That would be pretty amazing,” she says. “I think that would be really fun.” “When you’ve lived a hundred years away from the family,” adds Friedman, “I think we need to see what she was doing during that hundred years.”

 • Finally, while Leo is off on his Himalayan trip, Wendy’s love life will get more screen time with a new love interest in the form of sexy EMT Tommy (Ignacio Serricchio). “He definitely has Wendy’s attention, that’s for sure. He’s one of the few men that she’s come across that can really just give her sh*t right back at her. So that intrigues her.” As for whether or not Tommy’s child will get in the way of her happiness, she jokes, “Maybe Wendy gets rid of the kid, who knows?” And if you’re enjoying the new pairing of Wendy and Tommy, Executive Producer Richard Hatem says an upcoming episode is not to be missed. “Something huge happens in episode 8 of this season. Don’t miss it! In terms of the two of them, 8 is HUGE!”
