The cast and producers of Lifetime’s guilty pleasure Witches of East End descended upon the San Diego Comic-Con for the first time where they talked about the many-tentacled magical creature, Freya’s big dance number, and teased what’s to come for the rest of the season.
On the big, mysterious, magical creature that first appears in the season premiere and sexes up Ingrid (Rachel Boston), Witches showrunner Maggie Friedman says they wanted to create something never seen before.

“We wanted to create something that was our own thing and that was new and that was not a vampire, a werewolf, a zombie, or something that is not on any show that you can see,” she explained. “We thought it would be cool to create a magical creature from Asgard that feeds by having sex and needs a mate. We wanted to create a new kind of monster, which we did.”
On the August 10 installment of the witchy drama, fans will be treated to a flashy dance number featuring Freya (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) and Killian (Daniel DiTomasso) courtesy of a flashback to one of Freya’s past lives in the 70s. Stepping behind the camera for the episode, was special guest director Debbie Allen (Grey’s Anatomy).
“She was amazing,” recalls Dewan-Tatum. “She was so much fun. There’s no bigger dancer dream than to do a dance scene with Debbie Allen.”

With Jenna’s dance background, the idea for a big dance scene was in the showrunner’s mind from the very beginning of the series as early as when they were filming the pilot. Friedman approached the actress and pitched the idea that an episode with dancing had to be done.
“I think I somehow always try to [find dancing] in my parts,” Dewan-Tatum continues. “Obviously I love to dance and certain projects it’s kind of worked its way into happening in a fun, organic way. What I really like is that [our dance number] was really more groovy and less like staged. I remember saying [the dancing] has to be in a past life.”

THE GOOD SON | While almost everyone is very welcoming to Freya and Igrid’s brother Frederick (Christian Cooke), someone else in the Beauchamp household has their reservations. “Wendy has a soft spot for her nephew but she doesn’t trust him at all,” Mädchen Amick shares. “Joanna is just falling right into having her motherly heartstrings pulled; Wendy has to constantly bring everybody to the truth in this family.”
NEW ROMANCE | Amick reveals that Leo (Freddy Prinze Jr.) will not be returning any time soon and that he’s probably on a really long trip in the Himalayas looking for a really special caterpillar. “But there’s a new little tomcat on the prowl: Tommy (Ignacio Serricchio) the EMT. Hey may know how to pet a kitty.”

MAGIC CONNECTION | Rachel Boston’s Ingrid has a really interesting connection with Dash (Eric Winter) because of how long they’ve known each other. “Ingrid’s just going through what it is to step into this world of magic [and] has so much compassion for him. You will see a lot more of the two.”
And as for the rest of Season 2, Friedman reveals that there will be a few deaths, a lot of twists and turns with Freya and Killian, and the interesting history of the Beauchamp family will be explored.
