And though he calls his time on set “awesome,” the biggest challenge for both he and co-star Tyler Posey came at the very beginning.
The pair recall the rooftop scene from the season premiere, which also happened to be Sprayberry’s first day of filming. “We did this scene on the roof where I bite him and I bruised my sternum and I’m still kind of [sore] and that was seven months ago,” Posey tells us during our San Diego Comic-Con interviews. “I thought I broke my chest, so I had to get an x-ray. So that was pretty physical.” Adds Sprayberry: “He was 70% holding me on his arm half the time. It was fun, but it was tough. We did it from 6pm to 7am.” It was a sequence that took all night to shoot and proved to be physically challenging.
With Scott now transitioning into the Alpha role and having more responsibility now with Liam under his wing, Posey says that as with everything Scott does, his Alpha is going to do perfect. “It just kind of happens that way. He does it from his heart and only wants good things to happen. He learned a lot from Derek, but he also learned a lot of what not to do. He’s going to have a lot better time training [Liam] and raising him than Derek did with Scott. It’ll be good unless he kills him or something.”

As for how Liam fits in with the whole Scott and Stiles bromance, both Posey and Sprayberry describe the threesome as a one happy, disfunctional family. “I’m like the good dad,” Posey says with a smile. “And [Stiles] is like the crazy uncle,” adds Sprayberry, “and I’m like the bratty nephew.”
“Scott is kind of the understanding one,” Sprayberry continues. “He doesn’t jump on [Liam] for doing things wrong and for being too angry; he kind of understands. And then Stiles jumps on [Liam] for everything [he does] — gets too impatient. It’s really fun to see the different dynamic with all three of us.”
BEST BITES
• Sprayberry, who was promoted to series regular for Season Five has a few things he would like to see explored next season. For starters, he would like to see Liam working with Scott and his friends as a team. He would also like to see relationships build with Liam’s best friend Mason (Khylin Rhambo) and his step-father, and adds “[Liam doesn’t] have a mom yet, so that would be cool to see.”
• The series has a plethora of supernatural beings, but one that Sprayberry would love to see on the show is a vampire, “but not like a Twilight vampire,” he says, “[more] like a scaly-winged, bald-headed creature, like a demon vampire with a big tail and wings.”
• Sprayberry has attended the San Diego Comic-Con once before for his movie Man of Steel. This time around, however, his SDCC experience is a lot more hectic, “but in a good way.” He explains that he’s really appreciative of all the fans for their support, “especially [since] my character is still pretty angry and was really mean in the beginning and they’re not hating on me for it; so I’m happy about that.”
• During a recent episode of Wolf Watch, Sprayberry shared that he had originally auditioned for the role of Young Derek, and now with his recent promotion, is thrilled at how everything worked out landing him the big role of a lifetime. “Everything happens for a reason,” he tells us, “so I’m glad it happened that way.”
