With last week’s two hour premiere unveiling Mayhem, “Cloak & Dagger’s” latest episode, “Shadow Selves,” takes Emma Lahana’s duel role to a whole new level. Tandy, Tyrone and O’Reilly try to track Mayhem, whose backstory is revealed in flashbacks as she crosses paths with a familiar face. Tandy begins to wonder if Mayhem is actually doing more good than harm.
Lucky Number 11 | Opening the episode is a welcome return for Mina Hess, who seems to be taking the whole turning into a rage zombie and nearly dying thing quite well. She’s fine now, doing experiments on mice to see what happened the night of the Roxxon incident, and one of her mice not only splits into two, but one rips the other to bloody shreds.

Back in present day, the shell shocked Ty, Tandy and O’Reilly teleport to the church, where Tandy has some serious questions. After going to see Mina, who explains that the Roxxon chemicals split her mice into two sides, one of which is filled with rage, Tandy asks O’Reilly to find Mayhem because she would know how she thinks. They go to a backwater shady motel where O’Reilly says she would stay at if she ever got in trouble and find Mayhem’s room, which is covered in missing persons’ flyers and notes.
The Split | Flashbacks throughout the episode reveal Mayhem’s past: She emerged out of the water as we saw in the season finale, and heard on a TV that O’Reilly was in the hospital. She tries to kill O’Reilly in her sleep, but is forced to leave when the cops come. She ends up going on a vendetta mission to find Connors, who shot her, but of course, Connors is MIA. She also goes to see the recently fired Father Delgado, who has lost his faith and is spiraling down into alcoholism.
In present day, O’Reilly finds playing cards with locations written on them and they go to one to find Mayhem interrogating sex traffickers and finding the next trading location. Ty, Tandy and O’Reilly follow Mayhem there, only to find the sex traffickers dead and the captive women freed, but traumatized. Tandy tells Ty that since Mayhem freed the girls, maybe she’s not so bad, which Ty objects to even when Tandy says that the men Mayhem killed deserved to die.
Mayhem on the Move | After Ty finds another location by seeing a traumatized girl’s memories, Tandy and Ty go to the house where women are locked in cages. Tandy distracts the traffickers while Ty teleports the girls out one by one, losing his strength a little bit each time. Mayhem arrives and shoots all the traffickers, but Ty leaps in front of her bullets and absorbs them with his dark energy, along with Mayhem herself, much to Tandy’s shock. Mayhem ends up at a gas station for some reason, where the dead Fuchs wakes up in her fridge.
