Claire Holt Previews The Originals

The Originals Claire Holt
Fan favorite, Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt), will be ditching the almost-human life she had with Matt Donovan in Mystic Falls and will join her brothers Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in New Orleans for The Vampire Diaries spinoff series, The Originals. After all, you can’t have a show named The Originals and not have our favorite Mikaelson and new leading lady.

OMFGtv sat down with Claire Hold during the San Diego Comic-Con and got some scoop about her character and what’s to come on the new series.

Claire Holt will not be in the series premiere, but Rebekah does make her way to the Big Easy in the second episode. “[Rebekah’s] going to realize that she really values her family and she’s put aside her differences with Klaus,” she says. “She wants to come be there for [Hayley and Klaus’] child and help her brothers, and she always has respected Elijah and values his opinion and what he says. She’s really put her ego aside and is going to come and let it out.”

When we last saw Rebekah, she and Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) had been planning a romantic getaway and we’re all for Team Mabekah. We asked Claire if Matt would be joining her in New Orleans and become a Vampire Diaries series regular to join the offshoot because we love Matt and Rebekah so much. “I like them, too; it’s really fun,” she told us. “I don’t know that he necessarily will, but maybe we’ll be able to have crossovers and then have a fling once in a while.”

“And then you’ll get pregnant too, right?” we joked (kinda). “And then I’ll get knocked up and we’ll have two gorgeous, little vampire hybrid babies running around,” she offered. “That might be fun! Let’s go pitch that! I’d like to be pregnant, Julie! We have an idea!”

Since the pairing of Matt and Rebekah in The Originals doesn’t look like it will happen, surely a new love interest is in store, which is something Holt is not against. “When the boys [on the show] all look like this, it’s really quite easy.”

Coming straight from the flagship series, The Vampire Diaries, more preparation on The Originals is required for Claire as there is much more work to do. Luckily, the transition isn’t going to be too rocky for the star. “I’m pretty familiar with Rebekah now,” she shares. “I feel like she’s kind of a part of me. Just instictively I know her nuances. It will take work and it’s going to be tough and it’s a lot of pressure on Joseph, Daneil and I to live with. I’m going to do the best that I can.”

If you’re not sold on why you should jump on board for the new show (Don’t worry. You’re not cheating on The Vampire Diaries if you watch both!), Holt gives us reasons on why you should tune in. “I’m really excited for [viewers] to see the New Orleans setting and the mystical mythology there, the element of the witches, the family dynamic, and the war between Marcel and Klaus,” she gushes. “There’s so much interesting, captivating story there to tell. I think they’re really going to enjoy it.”

As for being daggered, we know Rebekah isn’t a stranger from being trapped in a box and here’s hoping that she’s seen the last of the inside of it. “I’ve been daggered so many times! I don’t like lying in that coffin so I’m going to try and stay far away from it.”

The Originals premieres this fall on The CW.
