After over a year of going dark, Cirque du Soleil has announced “The Sun Rises” and that it is ready to return to the stage. Due to the global pandemic, the Montreal-based entertainment company had ceased operations of its resident and touring creations for 400+ days.
It has been “400 days of anxiously waiting to return to the stage; waiting to bring to you, our loyal fans, the hope, joy and creativity of Cirque du Soleil,” read an email sent out to its fans.
Cirque du Soleil will kick things off by reopening two of its beloved shows in Las Vegas. Mystère returns to the stage at Treasure Island on June 28, 2021 and “O” reopens with its first performance on July 1, 2021 at Bellagio.
Cirque has also confirmed the return of its touring shows, KOOZA & LUZIA. KOOZA will be presented under the iconic Big Top in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic starting November 25, 2021 and LUZIA will return to the Royal Albert Hall in London on January 12, 2022.
Details for new Disney Springs resident show Drawn to Life, which was set to make its big premiere in October 2020, along with Under the Same Sky, a big top touring show, which was aimed for a Spring 2020 release, will be announced at a later date.
Said Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group: “This is only the beginning. We look forward to sharing more exciting news in the coming weeks.”
Noticeably missing from Cirque du Soleil‘s website is its 2019 touring tent show Alegria: In a New Light, a reimagining of the 1994 classic. While the show page is still active on its website, any links on its homepage and “all shows” page have been removed. We were anxiously waiting for its visit to Seattle, so we hope the show hasn’t been axed for good.
