“Charmed” Episode ‘You Can’t Go Home Again’ Recap: You Give Me Butterflies

Recap of Episode “You Can’t Go Home Again”

In the latest episode of The CW’s Charmed, the new Charmed One is stalked after unintentionally exposing magic to the real world. Meanwhile, Jordan and Harry try to track down the origin of the ancient coin whose owner had something to do with a pixie’s death. Directed by Liz Kruger who co-wrote the episode with Blake Taylor, here’s what went down in episode “You Can’t Go Home Again.”

MAGIC SCHOOL BUS | Kaela (Lucy Barrett) along with her cosmically-assigned BFF Brynn (Mya Lowe) reclaim her mobile home at Zane’s Impound. Kaela uses a slingshot to distract the lot guard, but while trying to get the bus started, the guard steps right in front with a gun pointed in their direction. The 26-year-old thinks hard about what she can do to leave with her home, and all of a sudden a swarm of butterflies envelops the guard giving them time to flee.

The following day, Kaela tries to explain to Brynn that the butterflies at the impound were because of her. Brynn starts to worry that her friend is ill again, at which point Kaela says that the whole witch thing was just a joke. At the command center in Seattle, Mel (Melonie Diaz) is alerted that Kaela is in danger and transports herself to Philadelphia to warn and protect her, to which Kaela rejects.

Later that night, Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) catches a mysterious woman lurking around Kaela’s bus. She doesn’t reveal who she is, but she’s there to do some damage.

SCARY POPPINS | The woman, who has a creature in her purse named Seymour, threatens the youngest Vera sister. “Help me find the witch who owns this bus, and I will be nothing more than a brief and fleeting memory,” she tells Maggie. “[Or] I can be something much, much worse.” She opens her purse and a giant tentacle shoots towards Maggie’s direction just as she’s turned the corner on Kaela’s bus.

Maggie finds out from Mel and tells her about the scary lady she ran into with a monster in her purse. Mel asks if the woman had “old-timey fashion” with a schoolmarm vibe and a deadly pet tentacle. After Maggie confirms, Mel explains that the woman is a Vittria, a piece of information she found in the old Book of Shadows. The Vittria were an ancient order who protected the secret of magic by killing anyone who showed it to humans.

At a party, Kaela’s powers start to go haywire as butterflies begin to magically materialize from her jacket. Brynn finds out that her friend wasn’t lying when she sees firsthand the last remaining butterfly patch on Kaela’s jacket shimmer, turn into a real-life butterfly, and fly out the window. The truth is finally realized. “It’s real,” Kaela says. “I’m a witch.” Brynn is taking the news quite well as she was more worried that her friend was sick again. Brynn also wonders if Kaela being a witch has something to do with her birth parents.

The Vera sisters rush into the house party when their watchful eye finds Kaela has gone missing. When they reach the new witch on the upper floor, they find she is joined by the Vittria. The woman explains that magic is not to be used on or in front of humans. As she opens her purse, Seymour darts out, and instead of piercing Kaela, gets Brynn instead. Mel and Maggie are furious at the woman who used her magic pet to injure Brynn. When the Vittria tries to explain that it was an accident, Seymour once again emerges out of the purse and eats the woman whole.

PIXIE PROBLEMS | Chloe (Emily Bader) enlists Jordan (Jordan Donica) and Harry (Rupert Evans) to find the one responsible for her sister Annie’s death. “I want to stop whoever did this to her, before they hurt anyone else,” she tells them. Jordan finds a Blue Camellia matchbook amongst Annie’s stuff. The two men head to the magical bar for answers, and the bartender informs them that the coins they have might have come from a leprechaun who’s a regular at the bar.

Harry cleverly manipulates the leprechaun, Frank (Michael Maize), to give them location details of a customer who offered him a boatload of cursed gold. Harry says that unless Frank wants to die from the poison he ingested, he better start talking. The leprechaun says that he doesn’t know where to find the man, that he did a dead drop in a cabin out in the woods. He provides his drink mates with the address then is told there is no poison in the bottle.

The duo heads to the cabin and finds themselves stepping on pressure switches rigged to explosives. One wrong move and everything gets obliterated. “If one of us takes the pressure off… boom,” Jordan says. Jordan shares that if he doesn’t die, he’ll relish every second he has with Maggie and try to meet her where she is. Just as they’re about to lose hope, the door creaks open to reveal that Maggie and Kaela have arrived — thanks to the tracking bracelet Jordan had gifted his partner.

Kaela finds the off switch to disconnect the explosives, but they can’t find a way to reach it. Maggie brings up that Macy’s telekinesis power would be handy at that moment, and Jordan adds that so will Kaela’s power of manifestation. Kaela tells Maggie that her powers don’t work when she wants them to and is unsure she can help in this situation. Harry walks her through a visualization exercise and Kaela sketches out a slingshot.

Harry then tells the new witch to open her heart to magic because it’s a part of who she is. He reminds her that Brynn needs her and they need her, “because you are a Charmed One.” Kaela focuses hard, and just like magic, the slingshot materializes out of Maggie’s jacket. She aims her shot and manages to turn off the pressure switches. They all head back to the command center just in time to heal a dying Brynn. “Thank you,” Kaela tells them, “all of you.”

Kaela decides to stay in Seattle and finally accepts the truth that she is a Charmed One. “Fate brought us together for a reason,” she tells the Vera sisters. “And I’m not gonna lie, I kind of want to see what that is.” Behind Vera Manor, Mel has a very special surprise for their new addition, a home away from home for Kaela: her school bus.

Charmed airs Fridays at 8/7c on The CW.
