Five Reasons Why We’re Excited for AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead”
August 23, 2015 is not only a special day because it marks my quarter – life of birth, but it also coincides with the long awaited series premier of Fear The Walking Dead. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present. While AMCs The Walking Dead is not coming back until October, at least we have something to curb our zombie cravings. Here are five things I’m looking forward to for Fear The Walking Dead.
Los Angeles References | Being an Angelino makes Fear The Walking Dead even more exciting to me. Since the show is based here in LA, I can’t wait to see all my favorite places being overtaken by walkers. Imagine the characters trying to take cover in Amoeba Music, but having a walker pop up from behind a vinyl display! I love it! Since most of the original The Walking Dead takes place in woodsy and rural places, I’m glad we’re going to get to see a big populated city setting where there could be a walker hiding just around the corner.
Alycia Debnam Carey | I’ve been a fan of this lovely lady for a while now, whether it be watching her chase tornados in Into The Storm or seeing her as a relentless commander in The 100, she never disappoints. I’m going to be really honest here, she is probably the main reason I decided to start the show. Nothing beats seeing one of your favorite actresses on screen with one of your all time favorite movie monsters. All jokes aside though, I can’t wait to see what her and the rest of the cast bring to the table.
How The Outbreak Started | The Walking Dead started off with Rick waking up from a coma and thrown into an already walker infested world. While Fear The Walking Dead won’t tell us exactly how the outbreak started, it will answer some long awaited questions, as well as some insight to the post apocalyptic world we are used to seeing. I’m also pretty excited to see the characters first reactions to the outbreak and seeing walkers for the first time. In The Walking Dead, your first thought would be to kill a walker, but with this being the beginning and all would they think there was a cure for the outbreak? Would they be able to justify killing one? This leads to the next thing I am excited to see.
The First Walkers | Keep in mind that the outbreak is just starting, so the walkers won’t be your typical rotting and decomposing zombies. They’ll definitely have a “healthier” look to them, kind of like normal human beings, probably body parts still intact and just a glazed over look in their eyes. I’m assuming that it’d be harder to kill someone who has just turned as well, but I guess only time will tell us!
Not A Spinoff | One of the best things about Fear The Walking Dead is that you do not have to be an avid The Walking Dead Fan to start the show. Not caught up with The Walking Dead? No worries! The story line is completely different, it’s not a spin off of The Walking Dead so you have a fresh start and can begin this journey with all the characters, it’s a whole different ball game. While I’m sure there will be some Easter Eggs in both shows, which is probably going to be fun for the avid The Walking Dead fans, you probably won’t be missing out on much. So yeah, maybe the fact that the setting being in LA piqued your interest, or maybe you want to start watching because of a certain cast member, the true beauty of this show is that you don’t need to have any prior knowledge of The Walking Dead franchise to understand the show.
These are just a few things I personally am looking forward to seeing this season. I have high hopes for FTWD, and I’m sure Robert Kirkman won’t let me down. What are you guys looking forward to see?
