Aloha Vet Sneak Peek: I Got You, Babe

Aloha Vet

The Aloha Vet‘s Dr. Scott Sims is one of Hawaii’s best-kept local secrets. Not your typical veterinarian, he treats both wild and domestic animals, and when islanders need help with their pets and livestock, he’s the one they call. Some clients live in hard-to-reach locations, but if an animal needs help, Dr. Sims always finds a way to get there, even if he has to walk, ride a horse, drive an ATV, fly a plane or swim. It’s a wild job that’s an adventure every day.

Meet Warren and his seven-year-old dog Babe. Babe was born without her two front legs and gets around mostly by walking. Unfortunately for the pint-sized pooch, walking on her hind legs will prove damaging to her in the long run, causing her to get arthritis and blow out her knees.

In the sneak peek for Aloha Vet’s “Big Island, Big Problems” episode, which airs tonight, Dr. Sims goes to work on making Babe more mobile by outfitting her with a set of wheels. Creating the custom prosthetic requires the sedated Babe to be wrapped up in fiberglass casting tape. If all goes well, the finished product will take a lot of pressure off of her back and hind legs.

Dr. Scott Sims’ job is serious business, but he does have some lighter moments. Elsewhere in the episode he takes some clients on a wild ride.

Aloha Vet” airs Saturdays at 9 PM ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD.
