Another day, another time loop episode. But “Agents of SHIELD’s” latest, “As I Have Always Been,” has a punch behind it, not to mention series star Elizabeth Henstridge making her directorial debut. Daisy is stuck in a time loop aboard the Zephyr, which is heading for extinction. To make matters worse, someone onboard is a traitor.

Happy Death Day | Daisy wakes up from her healing pod only to find that the Zephyr is stuck in a time storm vortex that will eradicate them from existence if they get sucked into the center. Mack gets blinded by a radiation flash that also traps Yo-Yo on the Quinjet, but as Daisy puts out a fire next to the time drive, she wakes up again in the pod, looping the last few minutes, right down the title card. On loop number 3, Daisy wakes up Coulson from his charging station and he immediately knows what’s going on because he remembers all 90 loops that they’ve done!
Murder on the Zephyr | After multiple loops, Daisy and Coulson realize that the loops bring the Zephyr closer and closer to oblivion and the only way to fix the time drive is to remove Diana from Simmons’s brain, but every time they try, Simmons suffocates to death from a gas leak in the Zephyr that was only caused by a knife. Loop after loop later, everyone who tries to remove the implant from Simmons dies horribly and Coulson has an existential crisis after watching his team die over and over again- leading to a revelation. Coulson tells Daisy that Enoch is the killer, having overriding programming that allows him to kill to protect whatever secret is hiding in Diana and Enoch proves it by trying to kill Daisy when she attempts to remove Diana.
The Key | A defeated Daisy spends one loop getting a pep talk from Sousa, who admits that he does care about her and in the next loop, Daisy rewards him with a kiss. Tasking the others with distracting Enoch, Daisy removes the implant from Simmons’s head and she informs them that only Enoch’s processor can disrupt the time drive, but he would die in the process.
Then, Simmons bursts into tears, suddenly remembering something before the loop ends. In the next loop, Daisy and Coulson inform Enoch, Simmons and Deke of what needs to be done and Enoch removes his processor without hesitation. As Deke fixes the time drive, the dying Enoch informs Daisy and Coulson that this will be their final mission as a team before he dies.
