In “Agents of SHIELD’s” latest, “Adapt or Die,” the team is split up and forced to deal with a Chronicom attack on the SHIELD base. Daisy and Sousa are captured by Nathanial Malick, while Simmons’s mysterious memory loss is explained.
A Team Divided | The Lighthouse goes into lockdown after Insight is destroyed, but the Chronicoms override the base’s systems to launch missiles at the Zephyr. The ship survives the blasts, but the time jump drive is damaged, potentially spelling bad news for their next jump. As Deke tries to fix the ship, Simmons once again tells Enoch that she’s forgetting things, while Mack and Yo-Yo return to the Lighthouse to try to free Mack’s captive parents. May and Coulson get arrested by General Stoner, who suspects them of being spies, but May finds out that Chronicoms have already infiltrated SHIELD personnel and one such double takes Stoner aside to copy his appearance.

Family Reunion | Daisy and Sousa wake up in Nathanial Malick’s clutches in a barn, who plans on dissecting Daisy to steal her powers for himself. He tortures her and steals a good chunk of her blood, but Daisy manages to steal a piece of broken glass to give Sousa so he can break out and take Daisy with him, as Malick accidentally brings down the ceiling, unable to control Daisy’s powers. May and Coulson break out and save Stoner from being replaced by a Chronicom and Coulson finds a hidden entrance to an underground base, which he descends. Mack and Yo-Yo find Mr. and Mrs. Mackenzie and lead them to safety, but Mack’s father gets injured in the process.
Home Base | Deke catches Enoch shoving something into Simmons’s head and is understandably freaked, but Simmons explains that she installed a memory suppressor, which she calls “Diana,” because that’s not weird at all, to keep her from knowing Fitz’s location, since the Chronicoms could use that information against them. Coulson finds the Chronicom’s base underneath the Lighthouse and talks to Sybil, their leader, who gives him a “We are the future, you are the past” speech, but Coulson doesn’t buy it and drops the bombs in their base, but as the bombs go off and destroy Coulson and the base, a mysterious figure comes down the ladder behind him.
As May flies Mack, Yo-Yo and the Mackenzies back to the Zephyr, she touches Mack’s father and reads no emotion from him. She informs Mack that he is a Chronicom in disguise and the Mackenzies reveal their true colors and the crucial fact that they killed Mack’s parents. Mack throws them out of the ship, but after the Zephyr jumps to another time with everyone but Coulson aboard, Mack leaves the ship, saying that he needs a minute. Deke goes out to comfort him, but then Simmons calls Deke and says that they’re in trouble and the ship is about to jump again. It jumps before they can get back onboard, leaving Deke and Mack stranded.
