“Agents of SHIELD” goes back to 1973 in a positively funkadelic episode complete with a 70s action title sequence! In the 70s, Coulson and the team discover that the Chronicoms have messed with time and set HYDRA’s heads on a dangerous path. Here’s what went down in the latest episode, titled, “A Trout in the Milk.”
Hindsight and Insight | The team arrives in 1973, three years after Freddie Malick’s death, and go to SHIELD’s secret bar to retrieve Enoch, but he’s not there. However, General Stoner (Patrick Warburton) is, celebrating SHIELD’s latest project: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” plot point, Project Insight, which is decades ahead of schedule and masterminded by Freddie Malick.
Mack and Yo-Yo find out that the project is launching from the Lighthouse, which was supposed to be abandoned by now, and Daisy finds a hidden room with Insight’s target list, including Bruce Banner, Nick Fury, Peggy Carter and Victoria Hand. Ruh Roh.

Changing the Rules | Coulson gets spotted by Freddie, who recognizes him, and reveals his alliance with the Chronicoms. But Daisy takes Freddie’s son Jeremiah, who was supposed to be dead in the original timeline, hostage forcing Freddie to defy Chronicom orders and let them go.
Enoch arrives in a snazzy 70s car and rescues the team, taking them to the Zephyr, that gets a new time destination they jump to in mere seconds. Now, the team is in 1976 on Insight’s launch day, and Simmons tells Enoch that she’s starting to forget details of their mission, which Enoch is concerned about.
Making a Statement | Freddie is once again contacted by the Chronicoms, who order him to kidnap two people on a photograph that we don’t see. As Daisy and Sousa hack into the Lighthouse’s security mainframe so Coulson and May can sneak in, Jeremiah knocks them out and drives off with them in his truck. Coulson and May manage to plant a series of bombs to flood the base and shut down Insight, as Deke and Yo-Yo confront Freddie and Deke immediately shoots him.
Unfortunately, Yo-Yo finds out who’s on the photograph- Mack’s parents, who are being held prisoner on the base! Mack orders the team to abort once he sees his parents on the security cameras and Insight launches, but he flies the Zephyr into the sky to fire at the satellite and destroy it before it can do any harm, as Coulson and May get caught and arrested by SHIELD security.
