Well, it’s the sixth season of “Agents of SHIELD,” so it’s time for some trippy “Fringe”-esque visuals, cool action with some of the best visual effects the show has given us to date, and plenty of surprises in the Clark Gregg directed “Missing Pieces.”
Daisy and Simmons venture into space to find the missing Fitz, while Mack deals with rebuilding SHIELD as well as mysterious invaders on a mission. The arrival of a familiar face complicates things…

Looking for Fitz | Picking up one year after the season 5 finale- sorry folks, no “Avengers: Endgame” references- Daisy and Simmons, along with SHIELD agents Piper (Briana Venskus) and Davis, are out in space hopping the Zephyr from planet to planet to find the missing Fitz. Fitz’s ship was split in half by an attacking ship and Daisy interrogates an alien trader who stole one half of the ship. When Simmons and co. find the other half, Fitz’s cryo pod is empty with blood stains on the glass. Simmons finds a clue in the pod leading to another planet, but Daisy and the others vote to go to Earth and refuel. When the ship gets attacked by the Confederacy, Simmons disobeys Daisy’s call to input the coordinates from the pod as the ship jumps away from danger.
Hitting a Wall | Back on Earth, Mack and team SHIELD are tracking dimensional anomalies, one of which opens a portal at a basketball court and a big guy comes out, but his comrade gets sealed in the wall, a-la “Fringe.” As Mack and May go to recruit Dr. Marcus Benson (Barry Shabaka Henley) to rebuild SHIELD Academy, Yo-Yo is revealed to be sleeping with new recruit Keller.
Coulson Who? | While looking at the guy in the wall’s body, he comes to life briefly before dying and dropping a timer counting down to something, along with coordinates for a museum in Indiana. The big guy and his two cronies arrive, waiting for someone named “Sarge.” As May, Yo-Yo and team arrive at the museum, the timer counts down to zero and the museum explodes, as a portal appears and a large truck drives out, also a-la “Fringe.” Out walks the Sarge, who looks exactly like Coulson and also murders a SHIELD agent and absconds with his crew.
There’s one last stinger, in which we see Fitz in some sort of workshop speaking in an alien language telling “The Controller” to wait for something.
“Agents of SHIELD” airs Fridays on ABC.
