“Agents of SHIELD” Recap: Save the Girl, Save the World

“Agents of SHIELD’s” latest episode does a lot and a little at the same time in “All Roads Lead…” Ruby forces Fitz and Simmons to infuse her with Gravitonium, leading to an unexpected twist of fate. Talbot falls under HYDRA’s sway and launches a mission of his own.

Ticking Time Bomb | After last week’s reveal that Talbot is under the sway of HYDRA, this episode proved the storyline completely inconsequential. He tries to kidnap Robin and knocks out her mom, but aside from that, nothing happened. Mack knocks out Talbot when he tries to shoot himself and that’s all she wrote. On a side note, Robin does absolutely nothing to stop Talbot’s reign of terror and lets him knock out her mother. Robin may be a future seer, but she’s pretty dumb.

Pulling Punches | Daisy and May infiltrate Hale’s base, just as Hale gets word of Ruby at the Destroyer of Worlds’ chamber. Hale surrenders to SHIELD and somehow manages to convince Daisy to take her to see Ruby to try to talk her down. This blows up spectacularly, but you probably knew that.

Ruby, meanwhile, keeps threatening Fitz and Simmons’s lives, but the closest she gets to hurting them is punching Fitz for about twenty seconds. Not that I want Ruby to kill FitzSimmons, but this is the same character who chopped off Yo-Yo’s arms. This is a downgrade from a good villain.

Finish the Mission | FitzSimmons reluctantly fix the infusion machine and Ruby goes in and after 8% of the Gravitonium is absorbed, she goes batcrap crazy and accidentally implodes poor Strucker’s head. Daisy and Hale arrive on scene and Hale tries to talk Ruby down, but Yo-Yo arrives and straight up slits her throat to save the world. After she dies, Ruby’s body floats up and an energy erupts from her. When it’s over, Hale is gone and Daisy is pissed at Yo-Yo for crossing the line. Hale makes her way back to the Confederacy and orders them to kill SHIELD to get the Gravitonium back.
