Following last week’s landmark 100th episode, “Agents of SHIELD” slowed things down a bit in “Principia.” Coulson, Daisy and Mack try to track down a missing cache of Gravitonium to stitch the fear dimension together, while Deke discovers something about his heritage. Ruby tries to play every angle when her mother tasks her with recruiting Werner von Strucker.
Two Birds, One Stone | Via some good old-fashioned SHIELD detective work, Daisy finds a mysterious man named Caine (Jake Busey) who’s been faking the deaths of Cybertek doctors related to the disappearance of SHIELD’s Gravitonium supply. When they track him down, Caine reveals that he knows Mack from SHIELD Academy and was hiding men who were forced to do bad things for HYDRA. Coulson, Mack and Daisy try to track down the missing Gravitonium while also looking for Cybertek resources for Yo-Yo’s arms and potentially to save Coulson.

A Familiar Face | General Hale has Werner von Strucker (Spencer Treat Clark) from, literally, three seasons ago, and is trying to convince him to join her strike force to take down SHIELD. She tasks Ruby with getting into his head and saying whatever she needs to in order to get him on their side. Ruby, however, immediately gives away her mother’s intentions to Strucker and says that if he stays, they can team up against her. I smell a good double cross coming!
Back at the Lighthouse, the fear dimension is still causing hallucinations, notably Deke’s mother giving him some advice before a Kree soldier “kills” her. This leads to Deke figuring out that he is related to Fitz and Simmons when he hears Simmons say something that his grandmother used to say. This should be interesting…
Look! Up in the sky! | Caine tells team SHIELD that the last of the Gravitonium was on a ship that disappeared in the middle of the ocean. With Deke’s help, they figure out that a lightning strike caused the ship to float up to the sky in a pretty creative visual. Mack manages to take the remaining Gravitonium and even chop up a few Hale controlled robots to give Yo-Yo some arms. Caine departs, promising that he’ll look into Cybertek’s Deathlok program to try to buy Coulson some time.
So, in essence, nothing of real plot interest happened this week. This episode was more of a stepping stone than anything massive, which coming right off the FitzSimmons wedding, is a bit of a letdown.
