This week on “Agents of SHIELD,” Daisy reluctantly teamed up with Simmons to find out how the Watchdogs are tracking Inhumans, leading them to a familiar face. Coulson and Mack propose a deal to Robbie, while May meets AIDA.
“Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire” is showing signs of how the varying storylines for this season are going to collide, but we don’t have the whole picture yet. Robbie finally meets Coulson and SHIELD after a pretty cool car chase, featuring the long awaited return of Lola. Robbie is clearly using Coulson as a means to an end to track down the ghosts, who we now know are the victims of the Momentum accident, but it will be interesting to see how Robbie will react to SHIELD.
Elsewhere, Daisy and Simmons had a reunion when Simmons tended to Daisy’s pretty bountiful wounds. This storyline highlighted one of the main problems with the Daisy on the run subplot: She leaves SHIELD, but keeps coming back to them for help. Simmons even says so. So, it’s a bit of a relief when she re teams with SHIELD at the end, even if she doesn’t seem too happy about it.
James AKA Hellfire from season 3 made a reappearance, where it was discovered that he was working with the Watchdogs, obviously. Anyway, the subplot gave us a cool showdown between Hellfire and Ghost Rider, which was quite impressive.
And finally, Simmons discovered the truth about AIDA, which she took surprisingly well. Interesting for the show to build up conflict with AIDA’s true nature and then do away with it.
“Let Me Stand Next to Your Fire” was a letdown. It feels like a bridge between the slow burn intro and the real meat of the season. Time will tell if that is true.
“Agents of SHIELD” airs Tuesday nights on ABC.
