“Agents of SHIELD” Casts Jason O’Mara as New Director

One of the biggest reveals in the season 3 finale of the Marvel series “Agents of SHIELD” was that Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) was no longer the director of SHIELD. For months, fans have been wondering who would fill Coulson’s shoes, and now, the mystery is (partially) solved.

Jason O’Mara (“The Good Wife”) will play the as-of-yet unnamed Director of SHIELD when the show returns for season 4. Marvel has confirmed that O’Mara’s character has roots in Marvel Comics history, going back to the 1940s.

“Bringing Jason into the mix as the new director of SHIELD,” said Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb. “Will force everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the agency. Jason has both the physical presence and the acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

“Agents of SHIELD” returns Tuesday, September 20 at 10 PM on ABC.
