Teen Wolf Recap: Blackout

The majority of last night’s episode of Teen Wolf took place at Beacon Memorial. Normally, the bulk of an episode is not specifically set around a single location, but thanks to the writers and directors, the episode still managed to deliver the goods, keeping up the usual high tension and fast-paced action.

The Darach has been finally revealed as Jennifer Blake (Haley Webb), the presumed innocent teacher at Beacon Hills High. When she runs off to see Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) at his lair, she warns him of the lies that Scott (Tyler Posey), Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and the rest of them will tell him. Unfortunately for her, Derek has already been filled in, and when she denies all the accusations, Scott attempts to prove it with a jar of mistletoe which he throws at her, thus showing off her true self as the murderous monster.

She tells them that they need her because she is the only one who can tell them where Stiles father (Linden Ashby) is and how to save Derek’s sister Cora (Adelaide Kane) who is currently in critical condition at the hospital coughing up black blood and mistletoe. They take her on her word and bring her to Beacon Memorial where everyone has already been evacuated due to the major storm in the area which has caused the electricity to go out.

They are not quite alone in the hospital, however, as Deucalion (Gideon Emery) and his pack of Alphas Kali (Felisha Terrell) and the were-twins (Max and Charlie Carver) are there to destroy the Darach once and for all.

Scott and his friends try to evacuate the hospital while being stalked and tormented by Deucalion and Co., and they miraculously manage to do so with the help of Isaac (Daniel Sharman), Allison (Crystal Reed), and Mr. Argent (JR Bourne). There is just one slight problem: Stiles discovers that the word “Guardians” — which is one of the five targeted groups the Darach is sacrificing — could also refer to “Parents” and both Scott and Stiles run back into the hospital to find that Scott’s mother had been taken by the Darach.

Meanwhile in the episode, we learn that Ms. Blake’s real name was Julia Baccari and that she was Kali’s emissary. Julia was one who Deucalion and his Alphas tried to kill along with the rest of the pack, but she was the only one Kali couldn’t kill. Kali didn’t understand why Deucalion wanted her to kill Julia; she was harmless. So instead of killing her outright to be a part of Deucalion’s pack, after maiming and mauling Julia, she walked away as she lay dying so she could let the one she loved die peacefully. We still don’t know what kind of relationship Kali had with Julia, but she was someone she had loved. They were most likely best friends.

As she lay dying, Julia gather what was left of her energy to crawl over to the Nemeton and as soon as she had touched it, it gave her enough power to live long enough for her to be found. The sacrifice of a virgin had given the Nemeton that power which was then transferred to her. The virgin in question was Paige, Derek’s first love who he had killed to relieve her of the pain she was suffering after being bitten from Ennis (Brian Patrick Wade).

BEST BITS

 • We knew from the last episode that Jennifer Blake was the Darach and we’ve seen her transform into the disfigured monster several times, however we were still impressed when we saw her in the elevator with her eyes glowing as she deflected Kali away from it. It was pretty bad ass!

 • Who else hollered when Ms. McCall (Melissa Ponzio) used the defibrillator on the twins? Earlier in the episode, we find out that she has a bat that she keeps at home. So we now know that this lady can somewhat handle her own. Go girl!
