SYFY’s Revival Season One finale, “Rend the Veil”, written by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce and directed by Samir Rehem, brings the season to an intense and emotional close. With high-stakes confrontations, shocking reveals, and final twists, the episode ties together long-simmering mysteries while setting the stage for what could come next.

The episode opens at the Abel Church, where Blaine is preaching to his followers while Em is chained to a broken cross. He is broadcasting live on his radio station and still denies killing her. Tyler injects Em with the Reviver drug, and we see that Ibrahim is handcuffed. Blaine believes his father foretold this moment, convinced the passengers are angels. Ibrahim laughs and calls that confirmation bias. He tells Blaine what he saw and says Blaine is willing to kill to prove his father was right. Blaine realizes something has happened at Moore Creek and sends people to investigate. Ibrahim asks about Wanda, and the two discuss Islam’s views on the afterlife, with Ibrahim suggesting passengers could be souls. He tells Blaine that science is about being open to change when presented with new evidence. Outside the church, Dana and Blaine are armed, but Lester gives them away. They are captured and brought inside, uniting everyone in one place.

Blaine holds a grudge against Wayne. Dana appeals to Blaine’s religious side, telling him how Em has healed her. Blaine wants proof and shoots Wayne. Em rips free from her chains and runs to her father to try to heal him. At first, nothing happens, but then Em focuses, yells at Blaine, and it works. She cries blood and heals Wayne. Blaine looks shocked as Em passes out. Ibrahim begs Blaine to let him save her, but Blaine refuses. Before Blaine can shoot anyone, the government arrives. Dana, Ibrahim, and Wayne run to another room where Lester is. Ibrahim gives Em a vial of Moore Creek water, but she needs more to heal fully. Lester says he can take her to his old mill downstream, where the water could help. The military breaches the building, and Wayne stays behind to hold them off while the others escape.

Dana takes Lester’s truck to get Cooper, while Em goes to the mill with Lester. General Cale is in trouble, but has Wayne in custody. She receives a call from her soldiers stating that another group has found something.

At the mill, Lester gets Em some water, which starts to heal her. She lies down to rest. At Jeannie’s house, Dana arrives to pick up Cooper, who has been quiet and withdrawn, reading comics and refusing to talk. Dana gets a call from Lester with updates on Em. He warns her not to come to the mill yet because there are too many military personnel in the area.

General Cale meets with her soldiers, who have found Wanda’s sick passenger. They plan to take it with them so they will not be leaving empty-handed.

While at Jeannie’s, Dana starts poking around and finds a book written by Aaron. Jeannie says it is a boring book about water and mentions having a tape of the lecture.

At the mill, Em gets up and looks around.

Dana and Jeannie watch the lecture together. Jeannie reveals the material is Lester’s work, shocking Dana. The tape suddenly cuts to a sex tape of Lester and Jeannie, and Dana is horrified to see the mark that has been haunting Em carved into Lester’s chest. This means Lester killed Em.

Em hears a passenger and looks around, spotting a glowing purple light behind a door. Lester appears, wearing a cloak and an animal skull mask. Em realizes it was Lester who killed her, though he claims it was technically Aaron. Lester warns that if she kills him now, she will never know the truth. He calls her weak but tells her Moore Creek can heal her. Moore Creek is one of the few places on Earth where the membrane between oblivion and awareness is thinnest, and the water flows through the mill. He says the world needs her and explains everything, admitting he killed Em and Rose in his quest to discover eternal life. Em is still weak.

Lester tells Em how he and Aaron turned on each other. He claims Rose and Em’s deaths brought life and reunited families. Em is upset about being used. Lester has her passenger, which is her soul, and releases it. She sees a large purple passenger, and he tells her to follow it to the water to fill the void inside her. It goes into a small well in the mill, and he urges her to enter so he can prove she is special. Suddenly, Em sees Patty in the water, reaching out and calling to her. This mirrors her earlier water birth flashback. Patty dunks her, but in reality, Lester is drowning her. Dana bursts in, shooting at him. They fight, and Lester’s eyes glow purple as Em’s life force appears to flow from her into him. Suddenly, Em rips out his heart from behind, but something is wrong because she is dying. Her life force leaves her body. Dana clings to her, crying. A massive blast erupts, similar to the one that triggered the revival. Dana is found later, but Em is gone.

Thirty-five days later, revivers are still around. Ken and Diane are open about their existence, and the governor is passing a bill for their rights. Dana and Cooper prepare for their day, just like in the pilot. Em is truly gone, and they all miss her.

Wayne is packing up his office, taking some time off while JP takes over.

Ibrahim visits Dana with donuts. He has a short-term residency in town that will allow him to keep studying Moore Creek. They agree to go on a date in the future. Dana goes through Em’s notebook and finds a Myrtle Beach guide and a poem, prompting flashbacks to their younger days. We see Rhodey is safe and writing music, Blaine is still broadcasting on the radio, Nithiya is undergoing treatment, and Wayne visits Patty’s grave.

Dana meets up with Kay to collect Em’s belongings. Kay is missing her, too. Dana learns Kay never told Em to go to the bridge on Revival Night. It was someone she was talking to online.

This leads Dana to investigate Em’s laptop. On an OI message board, she finds messages from someone encouraging Em to go to the bridge for closure. She calls May for help.

Dana gets a call from Wayne, who wants to visit Cooper, but she says it is not a good idea. Cooper blames him for Em being gone and needs space. May calls back with an answer. Nithiya Weimar requested Em’s case. Dana goes to Nithiya’s home to ask questions, but there is no answer.

In an unfamiliar location, someone sews with red thread on black fabric. It is Em’s hoodie, and Nithiya is the one doing the sewing. She finishes and hands the jacket to Em. She is alive. The season ends on a badass final shot of Em.
