Charles Michael Davis Talks Originals’ Marcel

The Originals Charles Michael Davis
After living in Mystic Falls for a few years, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) finally returns home to New Orleans in The Vampire Diaries’ spinoff, The Originals. It is here where it appears that Klaus has finally met his match and comes in the form of Marcel played by Charles Michael Davis (Grey’s Anatomy).

We chatted with Davis during the San Diego Comic-Con and he spoke about his character Marcel, the current ruler of the Big Easy, a title Klaus is very focused on reclaiming.

While Charles plays the Big Bad in the Big Easy, Klaus’ adversary definitely has a lot of charm and he’s not bad to look at either. Viewers will be torn on whether or not they’ll love or hate Marcel. Davis believes viewers will be caught in between. “I think that’s one of the appeals,” he says. “Everyone loves a villain. I think you’re going to hate him because he’s an antagonist, but you’re going to like him because he’s an antagonist. And in turn you’re going to understand why he’s an antagonist and in turn you’re going to relate to him.”

In fact, Davis hopes that you don’t like his character — at first, and hopes you stick around to get to know him. “You don’t have to like him or not like him, just understand him.”

Viewers of The Originals will get to know Marcel very soon on the New Orleans-set offshoot and he is excited that fans will get a to see a bit of his history. “We’re going to see Marcel’s backstory,” Davis reveals. “We’re going to see his relationships with some of the other characters on the show.” And though he loves and enjoys working with Joseph, he tells us that “it’s going to be fun to do scenes with some of the characters as well.”

Marcel is definitely in the dark about Klaus’ true intentions of taking back the place he once called home and while Klaus plans the overtaking, he may want to be a little more discreet as his plans will be something Marcel will “discover very soon; little tidbits here and there.”

“That’s one of the brilliant things about how the structuring [is]. A lot of that will be revealed, for sure.”

The Originals premieres this fall on The CW.
