“Moon Knight” Season Finale Recap: Gods and Monsters

It’s time for Moon Knight‘s highly anticipated season finale and this one was an epic showdown between good and evil. Let’s not waste time, since there’s a LOT to unpack, and dive right in!

Right Where We Left Off | Finally picking up in the aftermath of Marc/Steven (Oscar Isaac) getting shot in the tomb, Harrow (Ethan Hawke) places the scarab compass on Marc’s body and then retrieves the totem that holds Ahmet, using it to infuse his cane with the power of the god. Layla (May Calamaway) tries and fails to bring back Marc, but steals the scarab and follows Harrow as he uses the cane to kill a group of soldiers, but one of them is spared for being a good man.

As Layla sneaks into Harrow’s troops, the corpses that Harrow just killed start talking to her, being possessed by the Hippo, who tell her that she needs to free Khonshu to stop Harrow. Harrow and his men open the pyramid to find the gods’ domain and he kills all the avatars of the gods immediately and then frees Ahmet, as a giant crocodile looking woman who demands Harrow’s service, which he readily accepts.

Battle of the Gods | Layla frees Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham), who says that the only way to stop Ahmet is to free him and use the Moon Knight. He tries to offer her the chance to become his avatar, but she refuses. In the afterlife, Marc is about to approach the pearly gates, but then refuses and selflessly goes back to the sands to save Steven. After he tearfully apologizes to Steven, he comes back to life and they manage to come back to life in the tomb. Now that both of them can control their body, they demand to Khonshu that he free them after they kill Ahmet, to which Khonshu agrees.

Fight for Your Soul | Layla once again is spoken to by the Hippo, who offers her the chance to become her avatar and Layla agrees, getting a badass suit and golden wing weapons as a result. Moon Knight and Layla team up to attack Harrow, but Harrow overpowers them, and then Marc and Steven black out again and wake up with Harrow nearly dead and his men actually dead around them. Layla and Marc then use their powers to cast a spell to bind Ahmet into Harrow and once they do, Khonshu orders them to kill Harrow and Ahmet together. Marc refuses, saying that they would be no better than Ahmet if they do so and demands his freedom. A bright flash later, and Marc and Steven are back in the asylum for a brief moment, but then wake up back in their London apartment. But Wait!

Midway through the credits, as Marvel always does, Harrow is in a mental hospital named after legendary comics artist Bill Sienkiewicz, when a mysterious man takes him out to a limo. Inside the limo, Khonshu tells Harrow and Ahmet that he never wanted Layla as his next avatar. The mystery man reveals himself as Jake Lockley (Oscar Isaac), who promptly executes Harrow and drives off!
