The wait is finally over, and The CW’s Charmed Season 4 premiere answered some questions about who the new Charmed One is and what her power could be. Written by Aziza Aba Butain & Jeffrey Leiber and directed by Kevin Dowling, here’s what went down in episode “Not That Girl.”
WHO’S THAT GIRL? | At an auto shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sal calls on his young mechanic to step outside to look at the side of a building where she had drawn a mural, which she calls a “serious piece of art.” The woman, Kaela (Lucy Barrett) is given an ultimatum: continue to work for Sal and maybe one day own the shop, or quit. She informs her cosmically-assigned BFF Brynn that she quit the job shortly before she is surprised by a group of friends celebrating 5 years of remission from her cancer.
Stepping away from the festivities, she heads into her bus and lies down from having another of the headaches that she’s been having for the past six months. She tells Brynn that it’s not just headaches, but she’s been having dreams of people she’s never met and places she’s never been. “I think I’m going crazy,” she says.
MAGIC SCHOOL BUS | At the command center, Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) looks for more demons to defeat. While she tries to select Mexico City, the board keeps changing the location to Philadelphia. Maggie is transported there and shortly after finds Mel (Melonie Diaz) appear. As Maggie tries to get away from Mel, she crosses the street and is almost hit by a bus — Kaela’s bus. Kaela quickly recognizes the two sisters from her dreams and drawings. “It’s you,” she says.”
Mel discovers the Triquetra symbol on the side of the bus and realizes that the woman they ran into just might be the new Charmed One they’ve been desperately looking for. Kaela, overwhelmed by the situation outside of her bus, goes back inside and finds that a marble drawing has become real, and has opened up a portal. Kaela steps through the portal that has appeared in her bus and is magically transported to the command center in Seattle.

PIXIE PARTY | Jordan (Jordan Donica) is exhausted from trying to find out more information on a coin he had found that had been left by the Zamba Zaraa, a little creature that bit him, despite them not supposed to be having teeth. Josefina (Mareya Salazar) suggests that he accompany her to a friend’s pixie ceremony to help get his mind off things for a bit. He heads to the ceremony and runs into Chloe (Emily Bader), a pixie friend of the Charmed Ones.
Chloe explains to Jordan that her sister Annie (Zoe Christie) will be getting her wings. During the ceremony, Annie is to put a token (a gift to their Goddess of Flight) into the Box of Dreams. After a prayer of empowerment, her gossamer wings will appear. Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong, and instead of beautiful wings, Annie sprouts some “super cray” bat wings.
The ceremony leaves many injured, but thanks to Jordan’s healing powers, he’s able to heal all of them. Chloe brings up the fact that she thought Harry (Rupert Evans) was the last whiteligher, to which Jordan responds by saying that he’s not one and doesn’t really know what he is exactly. After things have settled down, he goes into the Box of Dreams and finds another coin matching the one left by the Zamba Zaraa.
SAFE SPACE | Back in Safe Space Seattle, a super confused Kaela once again runs into the Vera sisters. When asked how the new arrival got into safe space, she tells them that “a ball I painted came out of the canvas.” Mel and Maggie tell Kaela that she might be the new Charmed One. With her art coming to life, they conclude that Kaela has powers of manifestation, which they say would make sense with the new third.
They find a flat cutout drawing of Josefina lying on the floor, and find that her current state was the result of her eating an apple that manifested out of Kaela’s drawing book. When they are met with a demonic smoky figure, they grab paper Josefina and transport themselves to the Blue Camellia, an exclusive magical-patrons-only bar for some answers.
At the Blue Camellia bar, they learn that the smoky figure that had infiltrated the command center was a negative space demon. The demon manifested when Josefina bit the apple and made her become a part of the manifestation leaving behind unstable negative space. With this knowledge, they return to the command center, and, just like magic, the Power of Three is reactivated, which vanquishes the negative space demon and brings Josefina back to life. Kaela IS a Charmed One!
At the Vera home, Mel and Maggie offer an invite for Kaela to stay with them while they help her control her manifestation power and figure out how the three of them are connected.
Later, Harry reveals to Mel, Maggie, and Jordan that he did some digging up on Kaela in Philadelphia and shows a photo with her full name, Michaela Danso. He also shares her birth certificate which shows that she was left at a firehouse and adopted at birth, so her biological parents could be anywhere. “She could be related to us,” Maggie says. “Like, through mom?” Mel adds. “Possibly,” replies Harry. Mel says that now is a good time to have the Power of Three, “because something is coming. We’re going to need her.”
Among the wreckage at the pixie fledgling ceremony, Annie reveals to her sister that she met a guy who told her that if she used his coin for the Box of Dreams for her offering, she would get what she wanted. Unfortunately, that was a manipulative lie. When Annie is hesitant to say the man’s name out loud, Chloe hands her a piece of paper to write it down. Immediately after the last letter is written, Annie begins convulsing and blood starts streaming out of her eyes. The name on the paper: THE TALLYMAN.
