Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley Previews Season Five

Going into The Vampire Diaries’ fifth season, Paul Wesley will be tackling two characters: Stefan, whose currently trapped in a vault on the bottom of a river, and Silas; Mystic Falls’ newest threat.

We spoke with the actor during the San Diego Comic-Con and he shared details about what’s to come when the show returns this October.

The Vampire Diaries' Paul Wesley Previews Season Five“I am sort of taking it beat by beat,” Wesley says on how he’s approaching Diaries’ villain, Silas. “I don’t really know who Silas is yet. I’m slowly finding his wants and needs, his vulnerabilities and his strengths.

“I think he has a lot of humor,” he continues. “I think that Silas is so powerful that he has decided not to show that power by being overly aggressive. I think he toys with people and he plays and I think he does it for his own pleasure and enjoyment.”

The doppelganger shocker wasn’t a surprise to Wesley who found out about the cliffhanger six months before the rest of the cast and was sworn to secrecy. “[The producers] asked me, ‘Hey, would you be interested in doing this?’ and I said ‘Yes.’ I was not allowed to tell anyone.”

Now that Elena has chosen the other brother as the one she loves, Wesley hopes that Stefan will move on. As for love interests for Stefan and Silas in the new season, he found that subject funny with the current state his character is in. “Stefan will have a love interest with himself in a box at the bottom of the quarry,” he jokes. “That’s it. He’ll keep making love to himself.

“The idea of Silas having a love interest is kind of hilarious,” he adds. “He’s so powerful and wise. But you never know, maybe he’ll fall in love with a human.”

The Vampire Diaries Season Five premieres this October on The CW.
