This week’s Loki was one of the more interesting episodes of a Marvel TV series in some time! In “The Variant,” fans get to understand more about the TVA, our villain and Loki’s secret agenda. It’s a fun one to say the least!
Ambushed | In a renaissance fair in 1985 Wisconsin, a group of TVA hunters are ambushed by the cloaked figure, who possesses Hunter C-20 (Sasha Lane) and makes her attack her own men before passing out and the figure takes her into a portal.
Mobius (Owen Wilson) brings Loki (Tom Hiddleston) along when they investigate the fair, but all Loki does is stall to try to damage the timeline beyond repair the more they do nothing. Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) doesn’t fall for it and they reset the timeline and bring Loki back to the TVA.
Ragnarok | After Mobius consults Ravonna (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who tells him that he and Loki are on very thin ice, Loki is assigned to research all the hiding spots of his variant. Through his research, Loki reads about Ragnarok and Asgard’s destruction and theorizes that the Variant is hiding in places in time that are about to be wiped out by some disaster so no one would notice if he was running amok. To test this theory, Loki goes to Pompeii before it is annihilated and causes chaos, but the TVA doesn’t notice.
Mobius then remembers the pack of bubblegum that he found in the previous episode and that it is actually bubblegum from the future. They research destructive events that happened 30 years from now and end up in Alabama before a hurricane wipes out the town in 2050. The team splits up inside a Roxxcart store- Apparently, Roxxon Corp has been busy- and B-15 keeps an eye on Loki.
Showdown at Roxxcart | B-15 gets possessed by the Variant, who leaps around from person to person to talk to Loki. Loki offers his Variant a chance to team up with him and take over the TVA, but the Variant refuses and fights him in the body of a burly guy. Mobius finds C-20 tied up in a backroom and she says that she gave up the Timekeepers’ location to the Variant.
Back with Loki, the Variant reveals himself- or herself, as a female version of Loki (Sophia Di Martino). She then uses all the stolen time bombs from the TVA and sends them all to various places in history, pretty much destroying the timeline. She then teleports away and Loki follows her through the portal, against the wishes of Mobius.
Loki is now streaming on Disney+.
