“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” Recap: Justice is Served

With only one more episode until the finale, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gets deep and personal following the brutal ending to last week’s installment. In “Truth,” Sam and Bucky confront Walker, who goes on a crusade of his own, while Karli is emboldened to continue the fight.

I Am Captain America | After murdering a man with Steve’s shield, Walker (Wyatt Russell) flees the scene, but is caught by Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) who demand he give up the shield. Walker snaps and fights both of them and manages to rip off the Falcon wings, but Sam takes the shield back and breaks Walker’s arm in the process. After this, Bucky tracks down Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), who is paying his respects at the Sokovia memorial, and hands him over to the Dora Milaje, who take Zemo to the Raft.

Patching Things Up | Walker is stripped of his title as Captain America and is served just about every punishment in the book, short of jail. He snaps at the senators making the call, which obviously doesn’t help, and insists that what he did was justified. After the hearing, he is met by a woman named Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis Dreyfus), who hands him a card with nothing on it and asks him to wait for her call.

Sam takes the shield to Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) and offers him the chance to be the new Cap, but Bradley refuses, telling the story of how he was sent to prison for 30 years after illegally rescuing his fellow soldiers. He tells Sam that the world will never accept a black Captain America and this seems to hit Sam hard. Sam returns home and helps his sister Sarah (Adepero Oduye) fix up the family boat so they can sell it and Bucky arrives to help, bringing a sealed Wakandan case with him.

A Complicated Legacy | After the boat gets fixed, Sam practices throwing around the shield and tells Bucky that he needs to start making amends to the people he’s wronged as the Winter Soldier. At the last minute, Sarah decides that she can’t go through with selling the boat and this galvanizes Sam to start a “Rocky” like training montage with the shield. Walker visits Lemar’s parents to inform them of his death, but lies and says that the man he killed was the one who killed Lemar.

Karli (Erin Kellyman) makes an allegiance with Batroc (Georges St. Pierre) to get weapons so they can make a statement at a UN vote to relocate displaced people from the Blip. They storm the UN chambers and hold everyone hostage and Sam sees this on the news and opens the Wakandan case. During the credits, we see Walker building his own shield…
