“WandaVision” Recap: The Witch Is Back

According to the episode title, this is “WandaVision’s” “Series Finale,” teeing us up for an action packed and emotional rollercoaster with a few big surprises up its sleeve. As Wanda confronts Agatha, who forces her into a difficult choice, Vision faces a new foe and Hayward will stop at nothing to get his way.

Scarlet Witch Unleashed | Picking up right where last week’s cliffhanger left off, Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) manages to get Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne) free from Agatha’s (Kathryn Hahn) grasp and the two witches battle using their magic. Unfortunately, Agatha simply absorbs Wanda’s blasts, draining the life from Wanda as she does so. In the middle of the fight, the White Vision that Hayward (Josh Stamberg) constructed arrives to kill Wanda, but then the real Vision (Paul Bettany) shows up to fight his counterpart.

Wanda orders the twins to hide in their room while she fights Agatha, while outside the Hex, Hayward brags to Jimmy (Randall Park) that once he kills Wanda, no one will know what happened. Jimmy grabs a phone from the table and calls the FBI to come down there, while inside the Hex, Monica (Teyonah Parris) is being held captive by Pietro (Evan Peters), when she finds a resume with his face on it and the name Ralph Bohner- Yes, you read that right. Grow up! Monica also finds a magical necklace on Pietro and when she removes it, he becomes Ralph, allowing her to escape.

Making Things Right | Agatha and Wanda’s battle takes them to town square, where Agatha tells Wanda that the Darkhold predicts that the Scarlet Witch will destroy the world. Agatha also undoes the spell Wanda cast on the citizens of Westview, causing them to turn on Wanda. Wanda opens up the Hex to allow everyone to escape, but is forced to close it again when this causes Vision, Billy and Tommy to slowly disintegrate. Vision continues to fight White Vision, but bests him by uploading his memories of Wanda into White Vision’s mind and causing him to abandon his programming and fly away.

While Hayward enters and tries to kill Wanda, Monica steps in front of the bullet and becomes translucent, absorbing the bullets. When Hayward tries to leave, Darcy (Kat Dennings) rams his car with her van. Agatha offers a deal to Wanda: Give her magic over and Agatha will fix the spell cast on Westview so she can live happily ever after with her family. Wanda agrees, but doing this drains all the energy from her, leaving her decrepit. But it turns out that Wanda covertly cast magical runes on the walls of the Hex, negating Agatha’s magic and allowing Wanda to not only steal her magic back, but come out in a badass looking Scarlet Witch suit, complete with cape and comic accurate headdress!

Goodbye, My Love | Wanda casts a spell on Agatha to turn her into Agnes the nosy neighbor and condemns her to live in Westview. Wanda and Vision take Tommy and Billy home as the Hex begins to collapse, changing everything back to normal. Knowing they only have a few minutes left, Wanda shares a tearful goodbye to the twins and she and Vision have one last moment, during which Vision sheds a tear. As the last of the Hex fades away, so does Vision and Wanda ends up in the land where her house would’ve been.

As she walks out of town, the citizens of Westview glare at her and Wanda apologizes to Monica before flying off in her Scarlet Witch costume. Hayward gets arrested for, you know, trying to murder an Avenger, and Monica gets summoned to the theater where an FBI agents reveals herself to be a Skrull and offers her a job in space! And make sure you stay after the credits, because we then see Wanda in a cabin making tea while also astral projecting her form and reading the Darkhold, when she hears the voices of the twins in her mind!
