“Legacies” Recap: Places, Everyone!

Following last week’s emotional grinder, what does “Legacies” do next? A musical! Sure… Makes sense?

The Salvatore School puts on “Salvatore: The Musical!”- Also the episode title, BTW- and Landon gets writers’ block trying to write the show and also fix his relationship with Hope. Lizzie worries she won’t live up to her mother’s legacy, while a mysterious monster invades the school.

Working Out Some Issues | Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) is in the office of guidance counselor Robin Goodfellow, apparently named after the girl from “Wolfwalkers,” who convinces Hope that he’s known her for years. Hope has not been taking Landon’s (Aria Shahghasemi) breakup well, especially when she overhears students talking about Klaus’s murderous exploits. But Goodfellow convinces Landon to put on “Salvatore: The Musical” for the school to tell the story of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Hope tells Landon, who is also writing the show’s songs, that the Mikaelsons stay out of the show, as pretty much everyone wants to audition to play Damon, including Wade (Elijah B. Moore) and a woman! Kaleb (Chris Lee) gets the role and Jed (Ben Levin) gets the part of Stefan, and who else but Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) could play Caroline? Lizzie also convinces Josie (Kaylee Bryant) to play Elena, while MG (Quincy Fouse) gets an astral projection from Alyssa (Olivia Liang) telling him that a monster is on campus and he won’t figure out who it is, but she does care about him, hence her warning.

I’ll Be OK | Goodfellow almost immediately confesses to MG that he is the sprite Puck, but MG forgets this immediately. To add to our list of problems, Landon writes a song based off a letter Klaus wrote to Hope, and when he tries to show it to her, she is understandably very angry. Lizzie tells Josie that she’s worried that she won’t live up to Caroline, adding that Caroline finally figured out her life after she became a vampire and she’s worried she won’t ever get that. Come time for the show, Goodfellow informs Landon that “Our Klaus has come down with a stomach ache” and he will fill the role.

Always and Tomorrow | The show begins, and I honestly can’t do justice to the showstopper! Josie, Lizzie, Kaleb and Jed all bring the house down and the show goes the extra mile to make it look like a school musical, while also diving into “Vampire Diaries” lore. A few songs in, Hope, who is sulking in her room, gets a letter from Caroline to Lizzie magically delivered, and Goodfellow magically breaks Josie’s arm at intermission, forcing Jade (Giorgia Whigham) to help fix it.

After Hope gives Lizzie Caroline’s letter, she sees Goodfellow playing Klaus in the play and asks him if her father would be proud of her. Goodfellow encourages Hope to fill Josie’s part and sing the last song, “Always and Tomorrow,” which brings the crowd to its feet and moves Landon into making up with her. Alaric (Matthew Davis) meanwhile, shows up at Sheriff Mack’s (Bianca Kajilch) door to make peace with her. As Jade patches up Josie, she also tells her that she’s leaving the school and both of them share a kiss.

MG confronts Goodfellow about being the monster, but Goodfellow simply watches the show and says when it’s over that he was hired by the Necromancer (Ben Guerens) to cause chaos, but had a change of heart. This inspires MG to go to the crypt where Alyssa and the Necromancer are to save her, but Alyssa knocks him out with a spell because they need a vampire for their evil plan…

“Legacies” airs Thursdays on The CW.
