Marvel Studios finally kicks off Phase 4 and their Disney+ lineup with the highly anticipated “WandaVision!” The first two episodes dropped today on the streaming service and we have a LOT to talk about with this sitcom inspired Marvel series!
In the first two episodes, Wanda Maximoff and her husband Vision move to the suburb of Westview and must impress Vision’s boss at a dinner party, with some magical assistance. As the couple try their hardest to fit in, Wanda starts to suspect that something is amiss…
Mark the Date | Kicking off this sitcom series is a sitcom opening of newlyweds Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) moving into Westview complete with a theme song by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez of “Frozen” songwriting fame! As our story begins in black and white and in front of a live studio audience, both Wanda and Vision are baffled by the heart marking on today’s date on their calendar, neither knowing what the significance of the day is.
As Wanda gets a visit from their neighbor Agnes (Kathryn Hahn), Vision goes to work filling out forms at lightning speed, even though he has no idea what he does for a living. Vision’s boss, Mr. Hart (Fred Melamed), reminds Vision that he and his wife are stopping by for dinner tonight, hence the “heart” on the calendar and the last bad dinner an employee hosted got the poor guy fired. Vision calls Wanda to remind her, but thanks to classic sitcom misunderstanding, Wanda simply assumes he’s talking about a romantic night in. I smell hijinks!

Improvising | As Vision arrives with Mr. Hart and his wife (Debra Jo Rupp of “That 70s Show”), Wanda turns up in her nightgown with candles and romantic lighting before Vision informs her of the dinner party, writing off Wanda’s behavior to the fact that she’s European. When Wanda realizes that their guests won’t settle for a strawberry dipped in chocolate, she enlists Agnes to deliver a feast that she whips up using her magic powers.
All seems well, until Mr. Hart asks the couple how they met and neither can seem to answer the question. On top of that, Mr. Hart starts choking and Mrs. Hart doesn’t seem to care. Only after Vision uses his phasing powers to save him does Mr. Hart act normal and offers Vision a promotion. After the Harts leave, Wanda and Vision have a romantic moment, which is being broadcasted on a TV set being watched by someone taking notes next to a mysterious insignia…
Fitting In | In episode two, Wanda and Vision are preparing a magic act for the local talent show fundraiser for the children. As Vision heads off to the neighborhood watch group, Wanda finds a toy helicopter in full color with the strange insignia on its side. Agnes quickly reminds her that they have to meet Dottie (Emma Caulfield Ford), the head of the fundraiser’s committee, while the guys at the neighborhood watch group give Vision a piece of gum that he accidentally swallows, messing with his circuits. After meeting with Dottie, Wanda is introduced to Geraldine (Teyonah Parris) and hears a voice coming from a radio asking, “Wanda, who’s doing this to you?” Dottie hears this as well and breaks a glass, causing her hand to bleed bright red blood, but she shrugs it off.
At the talent show, Vision arrives late, due to the gum in his system causing him to act very, very drunk. This causes the magic act to go down like cement shoes in water, but Wanda manages to salvage it by using her powers to cover up Vision’s mistakes. She uses said powers to remove the gum from Vision- Gross- and Dottie awards the pair with the funniest performance.
When they get home, Wanda suddenly becomes several months pregnant out of nowhere, but neither of them seem bothered by this. They are, however, bothered by a man dressed as a beekeeper who emerges from the manhole cover with the insignia on his back. Wanda simply says, “No,” and everything rewinds to a few moments prior when everything is perfect and suddenly the world becomes color as Wanda and Vision kiss. Intrigued yet? Confused yet? Don’t worry, there’s more to come!
The first two episodes of “WandaVision” are now streaming on Disney+ with the remaining episodes dropping on Fridays.
