“Supergirl” Recap: A Change Would Do You Good

“Supergirl’s” latest episode, “The Bodyguard,” has good ideas behind it, but falls into familiar issues in the execution. Supergirl is tasked with guarding Andrea Rojas after an attempt is made on her life, while Lena moves into the testing phase of her project. Lex tries to make nice with Cooper and J’onn and Alex get on the case.

Leverage | As Andrea is preparing to launch Obsidian North’s latest VR lenses, an electrical surge nearly kills her in her elevator, but Supergirl saves her in time. Lex uses this opportunity to assign Supergirl to guard Andrea in order to win over Cooper’s trust so he can get closer to Leviathan.

Meanwhile, Supergirl shares the pink light that she saw with J’onn and Alex, who set out to find the alien species that emits that light. In other and slightly more crucial news, Lex encourages Lena to test her mind altering program on a group of violent prisoners.

#Superguard | As Supergirl trails Andrea as she promotes the launch, Alex and J’onn find out the location of an alien matching the pink light description and find the address of Todd Sapphire. Once they arrive, the pink light wielding killer nearly kills them, but Supergirl once again saves the day.

Then, they find out that Todd was not only an Obsidian North employee, but he committed suicide after he got addicted to the VR tech and got fired. Master deduction work reveals that Todd’s wife Amy is the killer and she storms Andrea’s office to shut down the launch.

What Have I Done? | Supergirl manages to talk Amy out of destroying Obsidian’s office building, as Brainy finds out that the Lex was using Supergirl’s bodyguard services to win over Cooper. He proposes to Cooper that he become the VR lenses’ public ambassador in exchange for meeting Leviathan. Meanwhile, Lena’s test of the mind altering program- it has some Latin name that sounds stupid- works on the violent prisoners, but makes the nonviolent ones more angry.

At first, Lena is distraught and finally seeing sense that maybe her mind control project is kind of a bad idea, but don’t worry! She immediately turns around and fixes it, throwing her character development out the window! Speaking of, Kara, for some strange reason, decides to go out with William. Because that was so earned through the whole episode…?

“Supergirl” airs Sundays on The CW.
