“Supergirl” Recap: Supergirl’s Greatest Hits

“Supergirl” celebrates its landmark 100th episode in a very nostalgic style in “It’s A Super Life,” in which Mr. Mxyzptlk returns to give Kara a chance to fix her friendship with Lena by going back in time to tell her the truth sooner. In doing so, Kara comes to an epiphany.

This Is You Life, Kara Danvers | So, Mxyzptlk is back and is now a different actor because… reasons. He’s now on a mission to help those he’s wronged with his powers and Kara is last on his list, so he offers her the chance to go back in time to tell Lena her secret at just the right time. Ground rules: Mxy, as Kara calls him, shows Kara an alternate version of reality and lets it play out until Kara calls it. A Do Over | First up, Kara tells Lena the truth a few episodes into season 4 and Lena is shell shocked by the news to the point that she flies to Metropolis to consult Samantha (Odette Annable), who encourages her to patch things up with Kara. Unfortunately, this is timed with Agent Liberty irradiating the air with Kryptonite and Kara dies because Lena couldn’t save her in time. So, nuts to that reality, here we go again! Now, Kara tells Lena during the Reign fiasco and this time, Lena is seriously angry at her. Supergirl is forced to fight Reign alongside Mon-El (Chris Wood) for some reason, but this ends in Lena and Mon-El both getting killed by Reign. Surely, third time’s the charm, right?

This time, Kara tells Lena the day thy became friends and Lena accepts the truth immediately and makes a name for herself as Supergirl’s partner in crimefighting. All good, right? Well… Turns out Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) in this reality lost his family to Coville’s Supergirl worshipping cult and kidnaps Lena and threatens to kill her unless Supergirl reveals her true identity to the world. Kara does so and rescues Lena, but Lockwood eventually tracks down Kara’s friends and executes every one of them.

Doomed from the Start | This time, a gloomy Kara decides that Lena would be better off if they were never friends at all. Ten seconds later, Kara and Mxy look at the ruins of National City and Kara says, “No thanks!” But in this reality, Lena went full blown evil and took over the city and accessed the dimension that gives Mxy his powers, trapping them there. After teaming up with Alex, J’onn, Mon-El, Dreamer, Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and Kelly donning the Guardian suit, Mxy snaps Kara back to her apartment. Now, Kara realizes that she shouldn’t dwell on the mistakes she’s made and must live with them and she flies to Lena’s loft to tell her that if Lena goes evil, she will fight her as an enemy, but will accept her forgiveness if she can. The choice is Lena’s…
