Marvel’s “Runaways” Cast Previews Season 3, Talk “Cloak & Dagger” Crossover & More!

At New York Comic-Con 2019, the cast and creative team behind Marvel’s Runaways stormed into Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater to screen the season 3 premiere episode, as well as talk about the most exciting new additions to the superhero show.

Executive Producers and show runners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage began by talking the casting of Elizabeth Hurley as the sinister sorceress, Morgan Le Fay. “Full credit has to go to one of our writers, Quinton Peeples, who not only suggested we get Morgan Le Fay, but that she be played by Elizabeth Hurley,” Schwartz said. Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb introduced a video clip from Hurley announcing her arrival on the show, which was heavily censored to prevent spoilers. “Thanks to Elizabeth for spoiling everything,” Loeb quipped.

One of the biggest talking points of the panel was the crossover episode with the stars of Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger, Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. “It was nice to have more young heroes join our show,” said Allegra Acosta, who plays Molly Hernandez. “That episode was really special because we always do this show for our fans and you guys have wanted that for a long time,” Sulkin said. “That episode felt like you guys were there and this was something for you.”

Savage talked the rationale behind bringing Tandy and Tyrone into the show. “As many of you know, Cloak and Dagger were in the original ‘Runaways’ comics and we wanted them in there from day one. This year, Jeph finally said yes.” When asked what episode the duo will appear in, Loeb refused to disclose because, in his words, “Cloak and Dagger are integral to this season’s story, so we can’t tell you when they show up or how many episodes they’ll be in. But now that Cloak and Dagger are on Runaways, there’s the possibility of the Runaways being on Cloak & Dagger.”

During the Q&A portion following the screening, the cast was asked whom among them is the greatest prankster on set. Virginia Gardner, who plays Karolina Dean, immediately pointed to Gregg Sulkin and Rhenzy Feliz, sitting to her right.

“I don’t know if I can curse up here, but these assholes tied my shoelaces together while I was taking a perfectly innocent nap!” Gardner said. “The crew had to get involved because no one could get my damn laces untied!” “I tie a mean knot,” Sulkin added.

The next audience member to ask a question introduced himself as Brian K. Vaughan, the original creator of the “Runaways” comic books! After a cheer from the audience, Vaughan said, “I just wanted to thank you for doing this show. This is the best cast on television and I lamp you all very much.”

Another member of the audience revealed that she named her daughter after the character of Molly, which flattered Acosta. “Brian, see what you’ve done?” Schwartz said to Vaughan. The question was what the cast was wanting to explore from the comic books on the show. “I really wanted Nico and Karolina to explore their relationship,” Gardner said, eliciting another cheer.

Finally, the cast vaguely teased the season 3 finale, with Sulkin saying, “The last shot of the finale is so emotional and encapsulates everything about our show. We finally get to be kids.” Ariela Barer added, “We got to improv a lot in that last scene, so there’s so much B Roll that we can’t use! Let’s put it on the blooper reel!”

All 10 episodes of Runaways season 3 premiere on Hulu December 13.
