The series premiere of The CW’s newest addition and adventure into the Arrowverse, Batwoman, is right around the corner! Viewers first met Kate Kane last year in the Arrowverse crossover episodes where we saw her as an already established heroine. The series’ opener takes things back a bit and gives some insight on her origins and how Batwoman comes to be.
Gotham City has been Batman-less for three years, so Colonel Jacob Kane has decided it’s time to retire the Bat Signal. His private security company, known as The Crows, protect Gotham now.
The Crows are challenged when a new villain who has sinister plans comes to town. Her rabbit-masked henchmen make things extremely difficult for Colonel Kane when they kidnap someone who is not only important to him, but to his daughter Kate Kane as well.

Through flashbacks we see significant events that shaped Kate’s life and lead her to where she is now, undergoing intense survival training to become a Crow to finally receive her father’s affection. But when she learns of the kidnapping she rushes home.
Ruby Rose (“Arrow,” “Orange is the New Black”) does an excellent job portraying Kate Kane in the show. She has just the right amount of swagger to pull off such an iconic queer comic book hero role. She also manages to pulls off the fighting scenes and stunts with ease.
To all the people who doubted Rose before seeing what she could do, I hope you tweet your apologies just as much as you tweeted about your doubt for her to be able to pull off the role, because not only does the Australian-born actress pull it off, but she also manages to make it her own.
The aforementioned villain, played by Rachel Skarsten (“Imposters,” “Reign”), absolutely steals the show as Alice. We know you’re not supposed to root for the bad guys — or girls, in this case — but something about her neurotic performance is just so delicious it leaves you wanting to see more of her.
The new series totally kicks ass and we can’t wait to see more!
Batwoman premieres Sunday, October 6 at 8pm on The CW.
