“Agents of SHIELD” Recap: One of These Things is Not Like the Other

“Agents of SHIELD” brings us one of its most fun episodes in a long time, as “Code Yellow” finally catches up with Deke when he gets a surprise visit from Sarge. Benson, Yo-Yo and Keller find a crucial piece of the puzzle in Sarge’s newest victim.

Mind of Deke | We finally see Deke since his promotion to series regular in a truly fun fashion. Turns out he didn’t disappear from reality after Fitz died, but has settled down in a “Silicon Valley”-esque tech company, inventing items based on his future gadgets and some SHIELD tech. He’s also tangled up with an influencer named Sequoia, who just so happens to be played by “Agents of SHIELD” co-creator Maurissa Tancheroen. All is well, until Sarge arrives to visit him after killing a guy named Simcoe, and Deke very quickly figures out that he is, well, not Coulson.

Parasites Suck! | Simcoe’s body is brought to SHIELD HQ, where Benson finds something crazy in the autopsy- a mini dragon thingy that has infected Simcoe’s entire body, transforming it into a hollow puppet. Essentially, it’s a cross between a zombie and the parasites from “The Faculty.” When Yo-Yo removes the knife Sarge stabbed into the parasite, it comes back to life and gets loose, eventually finding its way into Keller’s mouth! Unable to perform surgery on him, Yo-Yo tries to contain Keller, before his body explodes into strange strands of metal, until Yo-Yo stabs the parasite with Sarge’s knife, effectively killing Keller.

On the Hunt | Sarge and his crew arrive to Deke’s office to kill him, but they notice something off about his energy signature, saying he’s not like the others. May and Mack arrive to save Deke and track down Sarge, and end up taking out two of Sarge’s men. Snowflake, however, holds her own against May in a cool fight, before Sarge takes her prisoner aboard the invisible truck and escapes with her in tow.

The episode ends on one of the best jokes in “SHIELD” history, as we see the episode through Sequoia’s phone screen, hash tagging the action. I can’t do this scene justice. You must see this.

“Agents of SHIELD” returns with new episodes Friday, June 14 on ABC.
