Following last week’s epic reveal, “Legacies” goes nostalgic for it’s latest episode, “Let’s Just Finish the Dance,” while also throwing a ton of drama in for good measure. As Hope struggles with the traumatic events of last night, Lizzie enlists her to enroll in the Miss Mystic Falls pageant. Penelope tries to help Josie win, while Hope runs into a face from her past.
A Walking Case of PTSD | Hope is still traumatized from seeing Landon die, albeit briefly, last week and is having nightmares resulting in magical outbursts. But enough about that, time for the Miss Mystic Falls pageant! Lizzie is poised to run and take the crown, until she discovers that one of the judges is Dana’s mother and drops out, selecting Hope to take her place. As Lizzie trains Hope to walk the walk, as it were, MG’s mother visits the school and requests that Alaric pull him out of the school.

During this, Penelope is as usual trying to convince Josie to step out of her sister’s shadow and win the pageant, even though Josie is planning to blow it so that Hope can win. There’s also the creepy, but crucial detail that Penelope has been using magic to read the journals of everyone in the school.
The Saboteur | Also, MG runs into Nia, a cute girl who loves comic books, and the two hit it off until his mother tries to convince him to leave, which Nia overhears. Even worse, Hope’s ex boyfriend Roman is back in town. Though Hope has forgiven him for Hayley’s murder, Landon is jealous of his presence. Even, even worse, the gang find MG’s mom turned to stone in the yard.
Alaric deduces that there’s a gorgon on the loose, and surprise, surprise, it’s Nia, who for some reason is going after Landon. Landon himself shares a drink with Penelope, who, in an effort to derail Hope’s pageant dreams, reveals to him the secret Hope has been keeping regarding his mother.
The Old Fashioned Way | Lizzie dresses Hope up in Carolina’s dress, but Landon confronts her about his mother and walks out on her before she can walk down the staircase. Roman swoops in and helps her keep it together, until he overhears Josie arguing with Lizzie. Josie finally read Penelope’s note, which reveals that she’s leaving the school. Lizzie knew about it and didn’t tell Josie, which makes Josie furious, especially when she sees Hope in their mother’s dress, which was gifted to her by Klaus. When Hope hears this just as she’s announced Miss Mystic Falls, she breaks down in tears.
MG manages to knock out Nia and lock her up in the school’s dungeon, where she reveals that Triad forced her to infiltrate the school and kidnap Landon. Josie bids a tearful goodbye to Penelope as she leaves for Belgium and Penelope tells Josie that she loves her. She also leaves Josie the records of the journals she’s been spying on, including Alaric’s notes on the Merge! As Hope and Lizzie pinky swear to win back Landon and Josie, Landon is tasered by MG’s mom of all people and taken to Triad and Clarke, who tie him up next to Malivore.
