“Deadly Class” Recap: Sincerely Yours, The Breakfast Club

“Deadly Class” delivers its strongest episode to date in “Mirror People,” which has action, intense drama and even some comedy to boot. Marcus, Saya, Chico and others are sentenced to detention, which coincides with Saya’s yakuza family members preparing to exact revenge. Billy has a tense family reunion, while Maria asks Willie for a favor.

The Cardinal Sin | Master Lin sentences Marcus, Chico, Viktor and Petra to a weekend detention, along with Saya, because Marcus is her “pledge” and if he fails, so does she. Also thrown into the mix is a guy named Jaden, who totally isn’t a redshirt, no sir. Notably absent is Brandy, which makes no sense, seeing as she was involved in last week’s scrap at the dance as well. What gives?

As Master Lin goes off to sleep with the mysterious headmistress of the school, Maria asks Willie to forge a passport for her so she can get away from Chico and Billy goes to visit his mother and little brother, who are being abused by his father.

The Chests of Valhalla | After some “Breakfast Club” style antics, the detention group faces the problem of starving to death. Petra describes to them “The chests of Valhalla” where more food is stored, and Marcus breaks them out of the room they’re locked in so they can sneak into a room full of confiscated items, including weapons, Pop Rocks and a motorbike, which Saya rides around on. When Jaden tries to do the same, his hand gets chopped off by two yakuza guys in masks, looking like the bad guys from the “Spider-Man” video game. They stab Petra and Viktor before killing Jaden, as Marcus, Saya and Chico drag the wounded Petra and Viktor into the locked room.

Infiltrated | Saya explains that the yakuza are her cousins who want to bring her back to her brother in Tokyo. As Petra and Viktor are losing blood fast, Chico sneaks away through a vent and leaves the others to die, just as Maria gets her passport and hides it from him. Petra and Viktor share a moment as she shares her comic book illustrated backstory of her Satanist father ripping her mother’s eyes out.

Says gets knocked out by her cousin, who tries to drag her out the front door just as Lin returns. After a fight, one of the yakuza gets away, but Saya kills the other and gets emotional about it, sharing a drink with Marcus on the rooftop. Petra and Viktor are hauled off to the infirmary as Marcus sees Billy with a black eye. In a brutal emotional moment, Billy tells Marcus all about his abusive dad and how his brother and mother won’t survive him. Billy’s solution to this? Take dad to Vegas and kill him! Of course!
