“Runaways” Recap: Cleaning Up the Mess

With five episodes left in season 2, “Runaways” decides to introduce a brand new villain and a new host of issues along with him in “Big Shot.” Molly finds herself in a tight spot, while Old Lace’s health starts mysteriously declining. Alex and Livvie run into Awol, while Karolina makes a decision regarding her future with Nico.

Anticlimax Alert! | The episode opens with Molly captured by Detective Flores, who is ready to torture her for information about her friends’ whereabouts. Before he can, however, the other Runaways break her out in literal seconds. That’s right, last episode’s cliffhanger was all but pointless!

But enough of that, time for some scenes of Tina acting bonkers, obsessing over a slice of chocolate cake and off-putting Robert. Confused yet? Don’t worry, that’s normal. Also, Gert is having issues getting Old Lace to eat anything and she’s moaning in pain. Confused yet? That’s also normal.

Internal Affairs | Meanwhile, Alex and Livvie’s plot to get even with Awol, the corrupt cop who shot at them at hospital, involves all the Runaways going to the veggie grill where Awol frequents and trying to intimidate him.

Yes, seven teenagers try to rough up a cop with a gun. In fairness, the team quickly use their powers to make short work of Awol and his crew, with Nico using the Staff to freeze them in place.

So Weird | Awol is pissed at Flores for leaving out the crucial information that the teens have powers. He meets up with Alex again at Livvie’s place to negotiate a deal in which Awol takes Flores’s place on the Pride’s payroll. When Alex agrees, Livvie is pissed, seeing as he’s letting someone who shot at her walk free.

Awol meets Flores in the freezer of the veggie grill and ends up freezing him to death before kidnapping Livvie to renegotiate his deal with Alex. Back at the hostel, Karolina hears a woman’s voice calling out to her, but doesn’t tell anyone about it. Good news though: She and Nico finally make up. Bad news: Gert passes out inexplicably and Chase thinks that she and Old Lace are both dying.

“Runaways” season 2 is now streaming on Hulu.
