“Legacies” turns up the ick factor for “Hope Is Not the Goal,” as Alaric sends Hope, Lizzie, MG and Kaleb on a mission to Mystic Falls High School to investigate the disappearance of two cheerleaders. Landon struggles to earn Hope’s trust back, while Rafael is targeted by the school’s alpha werewolf.
I Volunteer As Tribute | Matt Donovan alerts Alaric to the disappearance of Dana and her friend Sasha and he orders Hope, Lizzie, MG and Kaleb to go to Mystic Falls High School as transfer students to ask questions about the missing girls. While Hope is still mad at Landon for stealing the knife, Kaleb sneaks away to feed on more cheerleaders, as MG remembers him feeding on Dana last week.
Back at the school, Rafael makes friends with Josie, who laments about the students only being taught defensive spells and not offensive ones. Then Jed, the school’s alpha wolf, arrives and orders Rafael to join their pack by spilling how he killed his girlfriend, Cassie. When Rafael refuses, Jed and his crew beat the crap out of him before Josie saves him.

Why Did It Have to Be Spiders? | After Alaric and Donovan find Dana’s body in the woods, MG alerts the others to Kaleb’s feeding habits. They all turn on Kaleb, who denies killing Dana, but his alibi checks out when Dana walks up to them. At first, they think she’s in transition, but in the grossest scene in The CW’s history, she literally vomits her guts out and dissolves into a pile of goo! There aren’t enough Yucks in the world!
MG deduces- from a comic book- that Dana was killed by giant spider that is wearing someone else’s skin. Sure enough, Josie and Rafael find a webbed up Sasha outside the school and Landon punches Dana’s boyfriend Connor’s face off, revealing a spider’s maw.
Normal for a Day | Hope and company follow the spider to find Josie and Rafael and Hope and the twins team up to cast a spell that kills the spider, while also spewing its guts over the girls. Because why not at this point? They save Sasha, but have to tell her that Dana is dead, while Rafael reluctantly tells Jed how Cassie died, becoming part of the pack. Alaric is mad at Lizzie and Josie for fighting the spider against his wishes, but Josie fights back by saying that had they been taught offensive magic, they would’ve won sooner.
Kaleb gets busted for feeding on cheerleaders and Alaric knocks him out and puts him in the dungeon, after Donovan threatens to go after the school if more students act out. Meanwhile, Dorian, who has been in a cabin in the woods trying to destroy the knife, is visited by something that looks like a mummy.
