“Fear the Walking Dead” Recap: FEMA

In the newest episode of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, we see more of what happened to the group in the baseball stadium but we still don’t know how things got so bad for them. ‘Just in Case’ was written by Richard Naing and directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer.

Before | At the stadium, Naomi (Jenna Elfman) is removing shrapnel from Alicia’s (ALycia Debnam-Carey) arm and discussing going out again for supplies with Madison (Kim Dickens). They know they’re going to need a bid haul to help their people, preferably one of seeds and fertilizer.

Later, Strand (Colman Domingo) and Madison are sharing a drink and he asks her why he saved him when the dam exploded. They reveal what happened during that time, how Madison and Alicia found him, Nick (Frank Dillane), and Luciana (Danay Garcia) and nursed them all back to health in a cave. Madison tells Strand she saved him because she knows who he is, and because she likes drinking with him. They are interrupted when Naomi is caught trying to leave with a car. Madison tells her she’s free to leave whenever she wants, but Naomi tells them that’s not what she was doing. She knows of a FEMA center where seeds and food might still be and was going to go there alone, because it’s dangerous. Strand and Madison end up going along with her, and the three of them set off.

The truth comes out later in a motel when the three of them need to crash for the night, that Naomi really was going to leave. But she was going to leave the map so they could still go get the supplies. But while Strand and Madison are sleeping, Naomi slips out early and goes to the FEMA shelter on her own.

When she gets there she’s met with dozens and dozens of the infected. She sneaks in a back way and finds the keys to a “just in case” vehicle full of supplies. It becomes clear that Naomi has more of a connection place than she’s letting on, which becomes evident when she struggles to kill any of the infected. She gets herself trapped on top of some scaffolding and looks like she’s doomed, but Madison and Strand show up just in time. They rescue Naomi and get to the “just in case” vehicle, it’s full of everything they need.

When they return to the stadium and the Vultures see what they’ve acquired they appear to leave, but who’s to say for how long. But for now, the group appears to be in a good place. Then why does Madison ask Alicia to start packing a “just in case” car?

Now | In the now, Alicia, Strand and Luciana are still traveling with Al (Maggie Grace), and Alicia is trying to get Al to use her truck to help them. Elsewhere, John (Garret Dillahunt) and Morgan (Lennie James) come across a member of the Vultures. He has Naomi’s gun, and John wants answers. He ends up shooting off the mans finger and telling him that the rest of their group is looking for them.

That tip is enough for the Vultures to go after Alicia and the rest of the stadium group, and they meet face to face on a road. But the Vultures have a surprise, Naomi is working with them. She pulls up and John immediately runs to her. Alicia, probably thinking Naomi is now untrustable, shoots John in the chest. The episode ends with him gasping for air while Naomi tries to save him.

Anyone notice how Madison still hasn’t shown up in the Now storyline? Where do you think she is?
