“Supergirl” Recap: Let’s Blow This Thing and Go Home

“Supergirl” deals some major shakeups in its season finale, “Battles Lost and Won.” Supergirl must decide if she’s willing to kill Reign to save Earth from destruction, while the Legion of Superheroes returns with an interesting twist…

The Schott Paradox | After an admittedly awesome rescue sequence early on with ALL the superheroes in action, M’yrnn sacrifices himself to interrupt the terraforming process that was destroying Earth. The Legion ship arrives and Brainiac tells Mon-El and Winn that the future has a new threat that wants to exterminate AIs. Brainiac cannot return to the future, but he says that Winn is the one that must go to the future to save all AIs.

One Well Makes You Stronger | Meanwhile, Samantha is in the black forest, where she sees her dead mother offering her the life saving water that will help her defeat Reign. Of course, there are two wells, one of which will kill her. And if you thought that her mother would trick her into drinking the wrong water, congratulations. You outthought the writers. Yep, her mom is totally trustworthy and Samantha is healed and flies off to stop Reign.

Be Kind Rewind | Speaking of missed opportunities, Supergirl and her crew arrive at Serena’s base and have a fight with Reign. Supergirl throws Reign into the fire pit and Reign dies, but not before Reign laser eyes Mon-El, Samantha and Alura. And just when you think the show finally grew some balls, Supergirl somehow goes back in time through a time rift and saves everyone from dying! So why kill everyone at all? Why not just have Supergirl send Samantha and Reign into the forest and force her to drink the death water? I honestly have no idea.

There’s still fifteen minutes left, so how about some season four opportunities? J’onn steps down from the DEO and promotes Alex to director, so she’ll have less life threatening scenarios and a chance to have a baby. Winn bids a tearful goodbye to team Supergirl, and Supergirl parts with Mon-El and Alura on good terms. Oh, and James publicly outs himself as Guardian! And Lena keeps a sample of the rock that gives Argo City its life! And another Kara inexplicably arrives in Siberia! And Bruce Willis was dead the whole time! And Samuel L. Jackson was the villain! Okay, that’s too far, but seriously! What else do you want to throw at us?
