Finally, “The Originals'” final season got its groove back! “Don’t It Just Break Your Heart” delivered a whopper of a final twist that makes the two week break until the next episode maddening.
Klaus interrogates a disciple of an old enemy, who presents him with a dilemma that could either save Hayley or condemn Hope. While Hope contemplates a major life choice, Elijah discovers that he’s not the only one with a secret past.
The Art and the Artist | Klaus starts slaughtering vampires to find out who has Hayley, and Greta surrenders herself to Klaus. She confesses to having taken Hayley, on the orders of August, a vampire who hates werewolves and wants to exterminate them. Greta tells Klaus that they will give up Hayley if Hope purges her werewolf genes just like Esther did to Klaus.

Impossible Choice | Back in France, Elijah catches a guy taking pictures of Antionette and she confesses that she knew him from before they met in New York. Antionette is the daughter of August and back in the 1930s, Elijah offered to help her run away from the Nazi regime. Elijah is pretty pissed at Antionette for keeping this a secret, but the episode ends before he decides whether or not he’ll leave her.
Marcel calls Hope and alerts her to the dilemma that Klaus faces. Hope immediately tells Freya to do the ritual that eliminates her werewolf genes, but Klaus interrupts them and takes Hope’s blood to sire more hybrids to piss off Greta. Hope, however, enlists her vampire crush, Roman, to take her to a witch to complete the ritual.
Live with the Shame | Greta escapes captivity after mauling poor Josh, but fortunately, he lives. Klaus confesses to Marcel that he is responsible for the grudge that August’s people are holding against him. Klaus killed August back in the 30s, but promised mercy to whomever picked up the Nazi coin that was delivered to him. August’s wife picked up the coin and asked Klaus to spare her, Antionette and their son- Roman! Roman calls his mother and tells her that he’s bringing Hope to her. Plot twist!
“The Originals” returns Wednesday, May 30 on The CW.
