“The Originals” Recap: The Hunt for Hayley

It may be the final season of “The Originals,” but this week’s episode, “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,” is still taking its’ time. That’s not necessarily a good thing.

With Elijah out of the picture, Klaus reverts to his old murderous ways and tries to force the three factions of New Orleans into finding Hayley. Vincent takes a side in the battle, while Hope and Freya bond.

Playing All the Angles | Klaus returns to New Orleans, claiming that he was unable to find Elijah. He gives an ultimatum to the vampire, werewolf and witch communities: If no one finds Hayley by sundown, people will die.

While the individual community leaders fume about this, Marcel and Klaus get an invitation to an address, which is stained with blood and the words “Freak Crossbreed Filth” are written on the wall.

Purification | Klaus snaps and kidnaps Josh, along with a witch and a werewolf and holds them captive, promising to kill them if Hayley isn’t found. Vincent and Ivy read tarot cards to see if Klaus is still a threat, and all seems well until Klaus gets a box with a chunk of Hayley’s cut off skin! Very Se7en-esque! Klaus then proceeds to kill the captive witch and werewolf, but Vincent stops him from killing Josh.

The Strategy | Josh is pissed at Marcel of all people for not coming to stop Klaus sooner. In fairness, he did try, it’s just that Klaus snapped his neck. I think he’s off the hook. Klaus tells Marcel that because the vampires, unlike the other clans, refused to help Hayley, they were responsible for her disappearance. Marcel tells the vampires that they must surrender their daylight rings until Hayley is found.

The Originals airs Wednesdays at 9pm on The CW.
