ClexaCon: What We Learned About “Wynonna Earp” Season 3

OMFGTV spent a weekend in Las Vegas for the second annual ClexaCon a few weeks ago, getting as much scoop about Wynonna Earp season 3 as possible! We attended both the Wynonna Earp panel and the WayHaught panel where we gathered some fun season 3 details, and we also attended the Lost Girl panel where Wynonna showrunner Emily Andras announced that more than one Lost Girl alum will be making an appearance in season 3. Here is what we found out about Wynonna Earp‘s third season from Emily Andras, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, and Tamara Duarte!

WayHaught | A queer relationship started on the show in season 1 between Waverly Earp and Officer Nicole Haught, nicknamed WayHaught. Though season 2 was quite rocky for the relationship between the two, they both not only managed to survive but also stay together! Going into season 3 it looks like they’re going to be in a good place, which equals super gay!

Moderator Bridget Liszeswki wasn’t afraid to ask Emily Andras just how gay it was going to be. “What’s the straightest show you can think of? I think that season 3 makes season 2 look like that straight show.” And Dominique agrees that, “It’s definitely pretty gay.” Dom also let us know WayHaught is going to be more domestic this season, and Kat agrees that is has more of a family vibe around the Homestead this season.

More Haught! | Officer Haught started off as more of a side character, but she has steadily worked her way up to more than just Waverly Earp’s girlfriend and becomes one of the “scooby gang.” This season we will see that continue by seeing a lot more of her and getting to know more of her backstory. We will see Nicole try to figure out that difficult balance between her career and her family. “There’s always this balance of work and family,” says Barrell. “And having a social life, and just trying to be put all together. So I think it’s wonderful to have a character that’s so career ambitious.”

More Wynonna/Nicole Scenes | Wynonna and Nicole have always had an interesting dynamic. Sometimes they get along great, usually when at least one of them is drunk, and they often butt heads. Emily confirmed that we will indeed get to see the pair together again this season. “I love Wynonna and Nicole. I love that tension. They like love each other, but obviously anyone who’s dating Wynonna’s little sister isn’t going to be quite good enough for her. But also Nicole’s a cop, and Wynonna’s a criminal, right?” Then Andras joked, “I’m sure there’s not another episode where they get into trouble and rely on one another to get through it. That would just be the worst.” So I think we know what we can look forward to there!!

Can Rosita Be Redeemed? | In the previous season we found out Rosita was a revenant, but Wynonna let her into her inner circle anyway. But Rosita backstabbed Wynonna in the worst way, but Emily says Rosita can come back from that. “I definitely think her story’s not done.” Then Emily posed this question to the audience, alluding to even more depth to Rosita’s character,”But don’t you also think she did what she had to survive?”

New Characters | It’s already been announced that Lost Girl and Dark Matter alum Zoie Palmer will be playing a character named Jolene, and Emily Andras announced during the Lost Girl reunion panel that Anna Silk would be appearing on Wynonna as a character named Kevin [yes, after Kevin Bachelder of the Tales of the Black Badge Podcast]!

Mama Earp | It’s been announced that Megan Follows is playing Mama Earp, and Emily and the rest of the cast seem to love working with her! “This is such a crazy show, but she really got into the spirit of it, I think. She’s so good on it, you guys.” The arrival of Mama Earp is going to really effect Waverly, according to Dominique. “It’s a big deal for Waverly, it’s a huge deal. Waverly was Mama’s favorite I think, ya know?” Waverly had a special bond with her mother before seemingly being abandoned by her, so her return is going to bring out a lot of emotions in her.

Earp Sisters Angst | It seems like Mama Earp only returns because Wynonna knew her location and Waverly most likely didn’t, which will definitely lead to some angsty scenes between the sisters. “Would it be the Earp sisters if there wasn’t some angst?” joked Kat Barrell when the topic was broached.

Waverly Continues To Figure Herself Out | It’s been revealed that Waverly is not an Earp, not by blood anyway, which starts Waverly down a path of figuring out who she really is. Dominique says, “That storyline continues into season 3, and i’m really glad it did because I really wanted to know what the answers were!” And she was surprised when she did fins out all the answers “in the best possible way.”

Black Badge | Emily confirmed that Black Badge is not gone, it will probably always be around in some way, but Black Badge is coming back in S3. “They do come back in a very unexpected way. A way that’s very personal.” Hopefully they don’t go looking for baby Alice!

Fun Facts We Learned About the Cast:

  • Tamara Duarte is pregnant!!!
  • Though she has been to several conventions since the premiere of Wynonna Earp, Dominique says ClexaCon is her favorite.
  • Kat Barrell was never a huge Brittney Spears fan, but she really wants to go to a Pink! concert soon.
  • Melanie Scrofano and Kat Barrell both have amazing comedic timing, but in a different way, which is why their scenes together are so funny.
  • Dominique has started “an online comminity for positive change,” called Start the Wave she would love everyone to check out that can be found on Twitter and YouTube
