WonderCon: The Men of “The 100” Talk Season Five’s Friendships, Growth, Challenges & More
We are now just days away from the Season 5 premiere of The CW’s HIT sci-fi series, The 100! Earlier this year at WonderCon, OMFGTV caught up with some of the men from the show — Bob Morley, Richard Harmon, Christopher Larkin, and creator Jason Rothenberg — to get scoop for what’s to come!
Unlikely Friendships | A lot can happen in 6 years, and as an audience we won’t get to see the majority of what went down during that time, but according to Richard Harmon, quite a few things may have changed for Murphy. Bellamy and Murphy have often butted heads, but Harmon shares that in the new season, the relationship between the two has definitely changed.
“Bellamy might be Murphy’s closest friend at the beginning of the season, and the one who believes in him the most through everything he goes through.” Bob Morley feels like their friendship has more of a sibling dynamic to it now. “I feel like their relationship is like older brother and younger brother,” said Bob.

Another unlikely ally we will see Murphy with is Raven. “I do have a really lovely storyline with Raven that I’m excited about,” Harmon says. Raven and Murphy have had a checkered past, but seemed to begin mending their relationship last season, which seems to have continued on over the 6 years. “Those two have such wonderful chemistry,” he adds.
Murphy has spent time in past seasons trying to redeem himself for things he had done when they first landed on the ground, but now he’s given up that attempt to find redemption. “I think [Murphy] may have let go of the redemption.”

Real Growth | Morley feels like Bellamy has truly grown over the 6 years. He feels Bellamy has taken the “head and heart concept” from Clarke, and now tries to approach situations with a level head.
This new ability to be rational was also one of the biggest struggles Morley faced this season. He was not used to Bellamy not being so impulsive and had to really work on the character.
Bellamy’s main driving force now is his sister, he wants to see Octavia again. “The way that I thought about it and played it was that Bellamy thought Clarke was dead,” Morley says. “Octavia is really the one that he’s concerned about and holding out hope for. That’s the real driving force for him.” Bob says whenever Bellamy is looking out a window he is thinking of Octavia.
PTSD | Monty Green hasn’t had the easiest go of it on Earth, and according to Christopher Larkin, he may not be thrilled to go back. “His last memories are killing his mother once, twice, and then losing Jasper in his arms,” Larking says. “I don’t know what the ground holds, they already did that dance and it went terribly. So maybe being back in space is a bit of a respite and offers some reprieve from that. Maybe it’s a scarier, more unwelcome experience than the first time around.” The loss of his mother and his BFF definitely leaves Monty with some PTSD that he will have to deal with.
Challenges | Rothenberg says the biggest challenge he faced this season was writing the time jump. 6 years is a long time, the characters need to feel familiar but changed due to their circumstances. “When [SpaceKru] come together with Octavia and the group in the bunker, for instance.” They don’t understand the changes they see after 6 years apart. “Bellamy has a hard time adjusting to who his sister has become. And vice versa.”

The EP is most nervous about the audience’s reaction to Octavia’s transformation. “Octavia has had to do some really dark things to keep that group underground together and unified,” Rothenberg explains. “To lead them, she’s had to make some really hard choices, which have kind of probably affected her soul on some level. She’s really, really damaged isn’t really the right word, but hopefully we understand why she is the way she is. She didn’t do anything that she didn’t feel she needed to do.”
Though Madi seems like she may just play the child role this season, Jason says that’s not true. The young nightblood actually has a significant storyline of her own. “Her role this season is not just as Clarke’s significant person.” The season 5 premiere begins with just 28 minutes of Eliza Taylor acting her heart out, then really explores Madi and Clarke’s relationship in detail.
The 100 Season 5 premieres Tuesday, April 24, at 9pm on The CW.
