SDCC: “Lucifer” Star Tricia Helfer Teases Where Mom Went & What’s Next For Charlotte

“I’m sorry, Mum. But I’m afraid that this ends now.”

Feeling used and betrayed by his mother, Lucifer used the Flaming Sword to cut through the world itself to create a portal in which to banish her so she could move forward, “even it if means never seeing you again,” he said.

After she passed through the portal and her host body fell to the sand below her, we were 100% positive her story arc had been completed, and that we had seen the last of the matriarch and the actress who plays her. So when Tricia Helfer surprisingly showed up at this past summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, we were both shocked and thrilled, because that meant she would be returning for Season 3!

OMFGTV excitedly sat down with Helfer to chat about what’s to come, and more importantly, where the hell did her character go?

“I went into an all-new realm,” Helfer tells us. “Lucifer said sending me back to heaven would not be good for anyone because I would be at odds with my ex. I didn’t want to go back to hell, and he loves his mother and didn’t want to do what she didn’t want to do, so he had the idea to start fresh. She is the Goddess of Creation, so he opened up a hole with the Flaming Sword and mom is now off creating, building her own again.”

While the Goddess of Creation is off in her that all-new realm, we’ll get to know more of Charlotte when the FOX series Lucifer returns for Season 3. “I’m an all-new character when I come back,” Helfer says. “New” in the sense that we’ve never really met Charlotte before.

From the second episode of Season 2, we got a little bit of info on Charlotte’s story when Chloe (Lauren German) and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) visit this man whose wife (Charlotte) went missing. She was an absentee mom and a high-powered criminal defense attorney who worked for clients who were sketchy individuals.

The new season will see Charlotte coming to terms with what happened. She was very confused when she woke up at the beach and didn’t have a clue who Lucifer and Dan were.

“She’s not going to know a lot; she’s not going to know that mom, Goddess of Creation, took over her body,” Helfer explains. “It really is her figuring out not only not understanding what happened, but trying to come to terms with it. Last thing she knows, she was getting attacked in a hotel room.”

Helfer adds that Charlotte will have a bit to work through herself and come to terms with what happened to her and whether or not she wants to be the same person that she was before the attack and subsequent body takeover took place.

“She’s not going to know Lucifer and Amenadiel were her sons; they’re not her sons,” she says. “And Detective Dan, she has no idea who he even is. So all these people to her are new.” And though she doesn’t know who they all are, Helfer reveals that Charlotte will be getting snippets of memories. “There might be sort of a flash of something.”

Even though Charlotte might be getting these flashes, Tricia Helfer wants it to be clear and known that the Goddess of Creation is no longer present.

“Mom is gone. Never say never, I don’t know, but mom is gone, and I am now Charlotte Richards, the human that mom had taken over.”

Lucifer Season 3 premieres Monday, October 2, at 8pm on FOX.
