“Killjoys” Recap: Who’s the Father?

Killjoys really hit us with a big twist in last weeks penultimate episode. It’s Reckoning Night and they’ve all got someone they need to be with for one reason or another, but things never go smoothly for our killjoys. ‘Reckoning Ball’ was written by Adam Barken and directed by Peter Stebbings.

Daddy D’avin | It doesn’t take long to get to the first twist in the episode, and that’s the father of Delle Seyah’s (Mayko Nguyen) baby. Kendry boards Lucy claiming she’s there representing Aneela (Hannah John-Kamen) and requesting a parley, but what she really wants is for Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) to check out whatever is growing inside of her, claiming they’re family now because she’s carrying D’avin’s (Luke Macfarlane) child. Johnny agrees to run some tests on Delle Seyah, and discovers who the mother is. It’s not Kendry’s own child, it’s Aneela’s.

Johnny realizes how important this is, Kendry is carrying the Hullen heir. He decides to break parley and throw Kendry into the brig. He doesn’t think Aneela would risk harming her own child to start a war. It could be the perfect bargaining chip.

False Memories | Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and D’avin devise a plan that would trap Aneela so they wouldn’t have to kill her. The plan seems sound, but their execution of it is sloppy and completely ruins it. With the help of Pippin (Atticus Mitchell), Dutch and D’av record themselves having a fabricated conversation and upload it into Kitaan’s (Tara Spencer-Nairn) memory and place her hand into the plasma to upload it into the Hullen hive brain.

Everything is going well until they leave Pippin alone with Kitaan. She eventually awakens and breaks free, she forces the truth about what they did to her from Pippin, and tries to make him fly the ship. But Pippin is no pilot and they crash, knocking the computers and Lucy (Tamsen McDonough) offline.

Dutch lures Kitaan out and into a fight with the last jar of plasma on the ship, and Kitaan ends up winning and getting all the info she found out from Pippin to the plasma, ruining Dutch’s plan at chance at survival. Dutch knows she’s going to have to kill Aneela for sure now, ensuring her own death as well.

Reckoning | Because it’s Reckoning Night, everyone is with the person they need to be with. Pree (Thom Allison) is working with his boyfriend Gared (Gavin Fox) and, unbeknownst to him, Gared’s alcoholic mother. She approves of her sons romantic partner.

Fancy (Sean Baek) and Turin (Patrick Garrow) have their own reconciliation when Fancy breaks Turin out. Fancy recognizes they are going to war and they need every person to fight, he’s able to set aside his feelings for the time being.

Dutch and D’avin FINALLY have their moment and get the kiss we’ve all been waiting for!

Dutch makes D’avin tell his brother of her plan, and he seems to be okay with it. But when she leaves the boys reveal they have another plan.

Bye Bye, Alvis | No one ever knows Aneela’s true plans, and I think that’s one of the most terrifying things about her. At the end of the episode she proves again how just how unpredictable she is. Dressed as Dutch, she meets Alvis (Morgan Kelly) and kills the Scarback as a message to Dutch and her friends. She’s here and she’s not messing around.

Be sure to watch the Killjoys finale Friday night at 8pm on Syfy to find out what happens when Dutch and Aneela face off!
