“The 100” Recap: Back to Space!

We are one episode away from the season finale, and things show no signs of slowing down on The 100. On last nights episode, things got tense between members of Skaikru while others hit danger on a rescue mission. ‘The Chosen’ was written by Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre, and directed by Alex Kalymnios.

“I say that death wave can kiss my ass.” | Raven (Lindsey Morgan) is still trapped in the bunker, and Abby (Paige Turco) tells her she’s sending a team to rescue her. Raven fills Abby in on her brain and how it’s healing. She even says she’ll “cure”Abby too, once she’s there. Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) volunteer to get Raven, she’s one of them. Abby gives them radiation suits, but warns them they have 23 hours to make a 20 hour trip, there is no room for error. Murphy (Richard Harmon) and Emori (Luisa D’Oliveira) volunteer to go as well, claiming it’s because they’re hoping to improve their chances in the lottery. But Bellamy seems suspicious.

Bellamy quickly confronts Murphy about his true motives, and Murphy admits he and Emori plan on going to the bunker on the island to escape the radiation wave. Once on the road, Emori confesses that she had finally felt safe for the first time, and Murphy reminds her that her home is with him. In the front of the rover Bellamy asks Clarke why she really came, and while she is answering someone jumped in front of the rover. Bellamy hit and killed that person, lost control, and hit a tree.

As soon as he opens the door to check out the scene they’re ambushed by grounders trying to take off their radiation suits. Suddenly, an expert bow and swordsman on horseback comes to their rescue, and it turns out it’s Echo (Tasya Teles). She knows there’s a bunker on the island, she wants to go with them in repayment for just saving their lives. They agree and give her the extra radiation suit. She’s already showing signs of exposure, but it won’t progress any further. But now that they’ve crashed the rover, how will they get anywhere?

Thankfully Bellamy is able to get through to Monty (Christopher Larkin) on the radio, he’s on his way to the bunker with Harper (Chelsey Reist). They quickly agree to save their friends,

Suddenly Emori starts coughing up blood in her suit and Clarke realizes that her helmets seal was broken in the fight and she’s been exposed. Murphy demands Echo give Emori her suit, but Clarke suddenly takes off her own helmet and gives it to Emori. It’s time to test her nightblood.

Bellamy and Clarke discuss their options, because there isn’t time to get Raven anymore. He wants to rush back to the bunker and turn as many people into nightbloods as possible. Monty and Harper arrive just as Clarke begins coughing up blood. She’s not sure nightblood is a viable option, and she thinks she has another way for them to all survive.

They arrive at Becca’s lab just as Raven begins looking defeated. They tell Raven they’re “going up.” They want to take the rocket up to what’s left of the Ark in space. They’re pretty sure they can make it livable. It’s settled, they’re going back to the Ark.

“This is how we save our people.” | Kane (Henry Ian Cusick), Jaha (Isaiah Washington), and Abby argue over how to decide which 100 people survive. They ultimately decide to hold a lottery for the remaining spots after they fill the first 20 with essential personnel and children under 16. Jaha is furious 364 of their people have to die, he wants to fight.

Kane tells the rest of Skaikru what is going on, and why the bunker has been flooded with grounders from every clan. He reminds them of the culling on the Ark, saying that some of them have to die for their people to survive. They’re upset Niylah (Jessica Harmon) is with them, and attack her. Octavia (Maria Avgeropoulos) has perfect timing and walks in to rescue her friend. She declares Niylah is safe, and that they now have 99 spots to fill.

Jaha begs Octavia to stop this, he says that she is one of them. She scoffs and reminds him of all the terrible things he’s done to her and the people she cares about, including making her hide in a floor. She reminds Skaikru that they are just like any other clan, if they don’t choose 100 people to survive then they will all die.

Abby blames herself for all the fear she sees on her peoples faces, she’s the one that opened the bunker door. She decides that when the time comes, she needs to be on the other side of the door. She wants to give up her spot in the bunker, but Kane doesn’t want her to. He begs her to reconsider, but she refuses, stating that her life “isn’t worth more than theirs.”

A father asks Jaha to take care of his son if he doesn’t get picked in the lottery, but instead Jaha convinces this man to start a riot. Kane notices Jaha is up to something and follows. Jaha plans to gas the grounders when they next open the doors, then take over the food and threaten to destroy it if they don’t make room for all their people. Kane somehow manages to talk Jaha out of it, because when Octavia opens the doors everyone inside is asleep.

Kane and Jaha teamed to stop the madness Jaha inspired, and decide the best way to decide who survives is to use Clarke’s list from earlier in the season. They just carry out the sleeping members of Skaikru that aren’t going to be inside to survive. When they get to Abby, Kane decides she’s staying. Hopefully she forgives him for this.
