The 100‘s tenth installment of their fourth season, ‘Die All, Die Merrily’, was by far one of the best, if not the best, episode of the entire series. The main focus of the episode was on the conclave and all the warriors battling to the death in it. The tantalizing episode was written by Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre, and directed by Dean White. 13 warriors go in, only one survives. Here is what went down: warning spoilers ahead!
“If I die, I die. At least I go down fighting.” | Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) is going into the conclave, despite Bellamy’s (Bob Morley) best efforts to convince her otherwise. After the 12 warriors are introduced Luna (Nadia Hilker) makes a surprise appearance and enters the conclave, promising she fights for no one but death. Luna wants them all to die in the impending radiation cloud. Octavia knows she needs to be careful of Luna, this is what she was trained for, more so than any other warrior fighting in the conclave, she’s the one to beat.
Just before the conclave begins Octavia briefly meets with Indra (Adina Porter). They have a real mother/daughter moment, and Indra gives O her sword. Gaia (Tati Gabrielle) would never accept it, so she gave it to her other “daughter” who would. The scene is very touching and gives O the confidence she needs. She also meets with Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) and Bellamy, who offers her the best advice she could ask for. Bellamy tells his sister to remember where she came from, she was the girl in the floor, she just needs to use that. She doesn’t have to kill all 12 warriors, just the last one.

“The King is dead.” | Upon entering the battle, Octavia heeds her brothers advice and hides most of the time. She comes across Luna, and they discuss Lincoln while Octavia struggles to find a way out, but she does. She’s able to get away from Luna, but runs directly into Ilian (Chai Hansen). He wants to work with–and undoubtedly protect–Octavia, but she refuses his offer. She promises to kill him the next time she sees him, which isn’t long. He helps her take out 3 grounder warriors before taking an arrow to the neck. It doesn’t kill him, but it seems to have paralyzed him. He knows he won’t make it, and asks O to fulfill her promise and kill him. Through emotion-filled tears she does what she is asked, and kills her friend. Octavia soon attacks Roan (Zach McGowan), but he proposes a truce. They need to take out Luna to save humanity, and Octavia agrees. They will take her out, then the two of them will fight until only one is standing. Or at least that’s how it was supposed to go.
And that’s how it would have gone had black rain not started to fall just before Roan made his killing blow. The rain distracted and burned him, but had no effects on Luna due to her nightblood. She seizes the opportunity to not only stab Roan, but to also drown him in black rain just to make sure he was good and dead.
“It’s Unity Days.” | Now it’s down to just Luna and Octavia, fighting for the life and death of humanity. Luna follows a trail of Octavia’s blood to a cabinet and starts stabbing it, but is surprised when it turns out to be empty. Octavia used her brain to trick Luna, then sneak up behind her and impale her.
Octavia has won the conclave, but she doesn’t want Skaikru to be the only ones to survive in the bunker. Octavia decrees that the bunker will be shared equally between all the clans, even though it’s not big enough to hold everyone.
“Skaikru have betrayed us all.” | The big shocker of the night came at the end of the episode, when its revealed that Skaikru, led by Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Jaha (Isaiah Washington), have taken over the bunker during the conclave. Everyone left outside of it will not survive the radiation cloud coming in 3 days, including Kane and Octavia.
Other Thoughts:
- Echo (Tasya Teles) cheated by sneaking in and shooting arrows at Roan’s enemies–including the one that hit Ilian–but is caught by Bellamy and Roan. Roan banishes her from Azgeda. But now that he’s dead, will she remain with her people?
- Clarke claiming the bunker isn’t very surprising when you realize she didn’t think Octavia could win. She thought they were going to lose the conclave so she did what she thought she had to do to save her people. Was it a snake move? Absolutely. But it’s the only move she thought she had left. But should she have dragged Bellamy along with her? That was his decision to make, regarding his sister.
