“Lucifer” Cast and Executive Producers Preview Remaining Season 2 Episodes

When FOX’s Lucifer returns for its remaining five episodes of the season, fans will be treated to all sorts of devilish goodness. OMFGTV sat down with the cast and Executive Producers early this spring to chat about the heavenly and hellish stories to come!

At the end of the winter finale, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) discovers the truth about Chloe (Lauren German). Feeling betrayed, when she goes to find him, he is nowhere to be found. For Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Lucifer’s best friend who happens to be a demon, this bit of news doesn’t sit with her well.

Brandt says that her character, nicknamed Maze, is not real happy that Lucifer is gone, saying she doesn’t know what’s going on. However, his absence is not unusual.

“He’s done this before,” explains Brandt. “It hits Chloe more than anyone else because of the nature of their relationship — how close they’ve got and what’s happened with the kiss. I think [Maze is] probably more annoyed that she doesn’t know what the big picture is and that comes to a head in episode 217.”

For those of you who have noticed that Lucifer and Maze haven’t shared much screen time lately, Executive Producer Joe Henderson reveals that that was done on purpose.

“One of the things we very intentionally did this season, is we separated Maze from Lucifer,” Henderson says. “They’re not together that much and that’s very intentional because we wanted Maze to go on her own and explore who she is. I will say that that will come to a head, that separation between the two of them, in a pretty awesome, slightly bloody way.” Adds Brandt, “Buckets of blood! It was real cool!”

What Lesley-Ann also finds cool is Maze’s loyalty to her friends and all the people she cares about. It’s a character trait that she finds the most relatable to herself. She shares that we will see how loyal she is more and more with her relationships with people like Chloe and Trixie.

That loyalty extends in episode 216. “I pretend to be a lesbian lover with Chloe,” Brandt reveals. “It’s super fun. I go and help her. It’s cool.”

That episode, titled “God Johnson,” is about a man named God Johnson who claims to be God. Played by Timothy Omundson, Executive Producer Ildy Modrovich effuses he’s “Delightful in the role. Can’t wait for you guys to see it. That big question is, is he the God?”

Being in the presence of God can be pretty intimidating. We can’t wait to see how that goes down for Linda Martin. Rachael Harris, who plays the doctor says, “Linda’s reaction to meeting God is pretty awesome.”

Dr. Martin has definitely come a long way since the moment she learned of the celestial world living among hers. Harris says that while her character was mortified and horrified, she loves that she always tries to keep an open mind.

“I didn’t want to go mental,” she says. “In that moment she just shut down like a computer and just needed to reboot when she got that information. She’s still coping with it in the next five episodes that we see before we go to season 3. She’s always dealing with it.”

Dealing with that information can be dramatic and even funny. Rachael Harris definitely brings a lot of the comedy to Lucifer, and with her comedic background, she nails it every time. And while comedy is in her DNA, Harris likes to play serious as well.

“I said to [the writers/producers] that I would really enjoy doing some more dramatic aspects of the show, and that’s where the episode “Monster” started happening (the episode where Lucifer reveals himself to Dr. Martin) but I said ‘We can go further.’

“They heard me when I said I would like to do something a little bit more dramatic,” she continues. “Things get real, but scary and honest in the next five episodes.”

In the next five episodes, we’ll also see more of Lucifer and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) teaming up. “Dan has finally had enough of [Lucifer’s jabs and] stepping up to Lucifer opened up a whole new world,” Alejandro says. “Now there’s funny banter that they put into the show and that we improv back and forth. I think people are really going to enjoy that aspect now so instead of him being a doormat always taking a jab, he steps up.”

Lucifer and Detective Dan Espinoza won’t be the only pairings we’ll see coming this season, according to EP Joe Henderson. “One of the big things we really tried to do was mix and match who hangs out with whom and it’s fun because we’ve got a lot of unconventional combinations.”

In addition to Lucifer and Ella (new addition Aimee Garcia) having an upcoming adventure together, Henderson reveals, “we’ve got an episode where Chloe and [Charlotte] (Tricia Helfer) work together; we’ve got an episode where Lucifer and Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) work together.”

But what about the fan-favorite pairing of Maze and D.B. Woodside’s Amenadiel? “I do love me a chocolate angel,” teases Lesley-Ann.

“They are one of the big ‘will they/won’t they”s and the fun of it is it’s two step forward, one step back,” Henderson says. “Amenadiel just wants to get out and wants to go home but that can be a little bit harder when he realizes that he really does have feelings for Maze.”

“They will always be connected in the sense that she did take his virginity, but she’s not a girl who’s hung up on one specific thing,” Brandt explains. “The thing you will find out about demons on our show is they have no soul, so they live in the moment and they go with the flow, and that’s very much what the character is and I think they’re always connected because of that.

“I don’t know where they’re going to take their romantic relationship,” Brandt continues. “I know fans love seeing those two together and I definitely love working with DB.”

Now we turn it to you, Lucifans! What are you looking forward to for the rest of the season? Which pairing are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments below!
