“The Originals” Episode Review: Family Reunion

This week on “The Originals,” Elijah, Freya and Hayley launch a rescue mission to save Klaus, while Rebekah finally faces Marcel. Vincent tries to locate the missing Adam, but finds a terrible truth.

“No Quarter” was… surprisingly mellow for “The Originals.” Aside from a few random vampires getting their asses kicked by Kol and Rebekah, this was a bloodshed free episode and focused on the Mikaelsons v. Marcel as they tried to rescue Klaus. Marcel eventually agreed to let them leave on the condition that they never return. We’ll see how long that deal lasts, but for now, the fact that this show is seemingly moving away from its mystical setting is a shocking change of pace.

Klaus also hallucinated Cami in his cell and while it was great to see Leah Pipes again, her cameo was fairly pointless, aside from the interesting admission from Klaus that he thinks Hope will be better off without him. Clearly, this is something Klaus will have to deal with for the rest of the season and the final poignant scene of him finally seeing his daughter’s face gave the episode a happy ending, which we rarely see on this show.

“No Quarter” was a fairly traditional episode by “Originals” standards, but necessary as it sets up the rest of the season. Season 4 is building slower and more strategically, so here’s hoping for a killer payoff.

“The Originals” airs Fridays on The CW.
