Our The 100 interview series continues with more of our chat with the very beautiful and very awesome Tasya Teles. In Part 3 of our interview, Teles delves deeper into her Echo character, speaks briefly about the costumes, and more.
Tasya explains that Echo is not the easiest character to play and opens up about the struggles of playing such a strong and stoic character. “I always want people to mediate and come together,” she tells us, “so because Echo is very loyal and she doesn’t trust the negotiation aspect with Skaikru, it was hard for me to keep her from being a one-note, evil character.”

Making sure Echo had many layers and wanting to convey to the audience and make them understand why she makes the decisions she does was really important to Tasya. This was among the other struggles when portraying the Ice Nation Royal Guard.
“Her stillness is really difficult, too,” Teles muses. The Canadian-born actress is a physical person who likes to act on impulse, but Echo is quite the opposite. “She’s very still and regal. She’s always watching and scanning people. There’s not a moment where she’s not taking in information.”

Echo’s wardrobe has changed quite a bit from when viewers were first introduced to her character to now. In season 2 she wears what is essentially a gauze bikini, and now in season 4 she’s in regal furs and warrior clothes. Surprisingly, Tasya favors the former.
“I prefer to be in a bikini any day,” she reveals. “Hanging out with Bellamy in our underwear was fun; I’ll take that over being covered in fur! But what they designed for Echo [this season] is so powerful. I felt very strong, whereas with the gauze bikini I was like ‘Help me.'”

Tasya is the perfect Echo, but if she wasn’t cast in that role who else in the series would she want to play? “Lexa for sure!” she responds without hesitation. “She’s iconic! I love that character.” Her second pick would be Luna, because she is also a “badass chick.” Tasya also relates to Luna because, if she could pick a clan to be a part of, it would be the Boat People. “They’re totally off the radar, like a secret clan in the middle of nowhere!”
While Echo is a strong, hard warrior, Tasya is very warm and welcoming, and has a message she would like to share with the fans.
“The more I get to know The 100 fans, the more enamored I am with them and the show. The fan group is such an amazing, cool, passionate, generous, creative group. I love talking to everybody on Twitter. So I just want to send a thank you to everybody.”
The 100 airs Wednesdays at 9pm on The CW.
